ClemFandango 18 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Pretty much as it says in the title. I've updated the TV Software and downloaded the latest version of Emby for Android TV from the Play Store and the attached picture is what I see. I have no issues with the app at all - that's installed and working perfectly, but the grey boxes are sticking out a bit
ebr 16169 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Hi. It isn't empty, you are just not seeing images, correct? Are you using an SSL connection to the server?

Yes, I'm not seeing any images. No SSL connection either. I had a Philips 4K TV that had Android TV installed as the OS and it was fine on that.
Luke 42077 Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.

The app itself works fine but the channel on the homepage still wasn’t displaying anything. At the moment, I haven’t yet been able to find any way to alter or move these channels so I don’t know if that’s made any difference.
ebr 16169 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I remember someone having this problem before but I don't recall the solution. Is there a proxy involved?

No proxy involved. As far as I've read, there's basically nothing you can do to customise the Google TV homepage so I wonder if that's the reason ?. You can rearrange the "Your Apps" list but that's pretty much it.
ebr 16169 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 No, the home page is having trouble loading the images for some reason. It is probably network related but I haven't found that other report yet.

I believe this is using AndroidTV itself - it is not within emby. So the standard android app will never have this ability ? @ClemFandango 5 hours ago, ClemFandango said: As far as I've read, there's basically nothing you can do to customise the Google TV homepage so I wonder if that's the reason ?. If you do an AndroidTV 'search' - does emby show up for a known show ? ie if you searched for 'The Truman Show' - does it show up in the results ?

Yes this is basically what's happened. The picture is very quick and dirty but it's a side by side comparison. The whole idea of customizable 'channels' has gone.
rbjtech 5284 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 So I see 'grey' empty boxes only for items that emby no-longer has available - I presume some sort of refresh is peroidically done within Android itself to generate the posters and these will get replaced. If you click the empty poster, does it still fire Emby and goto that TV Show (if TV) or start the movie ?

I've just done it and clicked on The Truman Show grey blob in the original picture and I'm currently looking at the launch page for that movie in Emby so that aspect of it works fine. 1

Possibly a restart on the Shield may do it but presume you have tried that ... Edited July 31, 2023 by rbjtech

It’s not a shield, it’s a Sony Bravia TV but I have indeed restarted it many times and even fully powered it off and on again.

I assume eventually Nvidia will bow down and convert as well. 2 hours ago, rbjtech said: I'll have a dig to see what Android System process generates the images The image urls are created by the app. 1
ClemFandango 18 Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 For whatever it's worth, I did a quick install of Plex last night and tried it on the TV and it doesn't actually display that channel (or whatever google tv calls it now) at all so I'm wondering if it'll end up being something that will need removing rather than fixing ?

It's possibly the custom 'Sony' Android version not playing ball - I know there are certain things that don't work on 'TV' versions of Android (vs devices like the Shield) so maybe this is unfortunately another one of them .. You'll just have to remove the channel to avoid the row of grey posters .. But as it works for others, please don't go functionally removing it (maybe just default it to show no channels) ...

You can't remove the channel as there are no customisation options. The only way to remove it would be for the Emby app itself to basically detect what device it's on and display it or not. 10 hours ago, Luke said: Didn't display anything, or had gray boxes as well? So you can't press left on a highlighted widget and move it up or down or remove it? That sucks! I hope my Sony Bravia never updates to GoogleTV! Not that I expect it to it's a 2018 model (Sony KD-43X7500F) so I think I'll be stuck with AndroidTV..

My Bravia is a 2023 model and as far as I’ve read, all future Android TV’s will ship with Google TV.

My AndroidTV is up to date and looks a lot different from the screen you posted above but still has the ability to customize. I wish I had "Disable the update service" as @rbjtechsaid earlier so I didn't have the promo bullshit header ... Never mind, I've got use to it and just ignore it. It's a shame that google nerf stuff like this.. and for what?.. $$.. Sad My AndriodTV looks like GoogleTV at the mo.. If that makes sense.. but I still have the options there to add/remove crap or move it up/down. EDIT: I just re-enabled Emby's crappy recommended widget and that still works. That widget has a old school poster aspect (could be a problem for GTV). Edited August 4, 2023 by Junglejim
