Collections Folder Sync/Download question

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Sorry if this type of thing has already been answered, I searched all around but couldn't find a similar scenario, so question is -

When a Collections folder is added to the downloads queue, particularly with 'Folder Sync', should that download job reflect all new movies added to that Collections folder?  I'm not seeing it if so, if not, do I need to resubmit a 'Download to.." task whenever I do add movies to the specific collections folder?

To expand on the question, here's the bigger scenario, and have looked through the forum on several strategies around this, but I've had my main Emby Server running at home for years.  I setup a media server in my RV, that could serve up to the various end-clients when out and about.  Using a low-powered device with Windows 11 as a server with another instances of Emby running  which works fine.  I'm just trying to find the best way to sync a subset of movies from my main movie collection to the RV instance.  Collections is oneway i've seen in being able to maintain a managed list (aside from straight file copying between), but like to figure how the easiest (and most automated) way to sync between servers.  I looked at:

 - sync'ng directly between emby instances, no dice looks like

- using a portable drive to sneaker net between, but that's an additional drive/ task/ something else to keep track of...

- connecting directly to the main library share from RV Emby (device is not trusted, nor joined to the home domain). Setup a folder syc job there.  Understand I'd have to use a trusted service account (running it aas) or do some guest access enablement on the server, which I'm not keen on doing.

- think the best route is to just create and have a sync'd Windows folder on my Home Server, duplicating select movies, setup a Windows robocopy type job to my RV instance's library.

Any thoughts from the community on maybe a better way?

thx

maybe the better option for syncing is to install the Emby Theater client to download video's directly from Home Server to the Windows 11 RV device (when connected)?  Then use the server to provide the streaming ability to all RV clients?   Still wondering about the Collections ability to dynamically update in downloads.

Hi, if you selected the option to automatically download new content when you setup the download job, then yes.

It is based on the date added value of newly added content. Have you checked this in the metadata editor for your newer titles?

ok, think that explains it, thanks.  The Collections folder is 'New', but it's all based on my 'older' movie collection.  To enable any of those old but newly added titles to be picked up in the download job, I'd need to go through and reset the meta 'add dates' of all the titles in the collection to be newer then when the collection was created?  If so, then easiest way would be to just go in and create a new Download job for said collections folder and go from there?

Which is no problem at all, just trying to understand the logic in how it works.

appreciate the guidance, and looks like it's all working well with this understanding.
