nusuzst 31 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) Hi, Do I'm doing something wrong or I don't know something? Why Emby is not playing automatically next file if I'm watching TV series? When one episode finishes, I have to go back, and then click play on another episode and repeat X times... There is an option "Play all" but always starts from episode 1. Please advise Edited July 17, 2023 by nusuzst
Luke 42077 Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 Hi, what Emby app are you playing with? Have you taken a look at your Emby user playback settings?
nusuzst 31 Posted July 18, 2023 Author Posted July 18, 2023 (edited) Hi Luke! So I have the latest Emby (beta) server installed on my Qnap. I'm watching movies/Tv series on my WebOS TV using (the latest) Emby app. I'll double-check all the settings but I'm quite sure that everything is set properly. I'll let you know tomorrow. Good night Edited July 18, 2023 by nusuzst

The "Play next episode automatically" option is enabled. Also "Skip intro" never worked for me or "Are you still watching". But one step at a time. Let's solve "play next episode" first. Luke 42077 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Ok what Emby app are you playing with? How did you start playing? Please provide a specific example. Thanks.
ebr 16169 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Hi. Note that option is in each app individually. Setting it on the web app, just turns it on for web playback. 1
nusuzst 31 Posted July 19, 2023 Author Posted July 19, 2023 (edited) Hi Luke, hi ebr. Thank you for trying to help me! Both ends were checked. Auto Play Next is selected on Emby Server and TV app. WebOS - latest. Emby server Latest - 4.8.0.39-beta Add: Also "Are you still watching" and "Skip intro" is selected on both sides. They never worked for me as well. Edited July 19, 2023 by nusuzst
ebr 16169 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Hi. Are you sure you are playing TV episodes with proper season and episode data? Can we please see a log file from an example where it did not work for you?
nusuzst 31 Posted July 19, 2023 Author Posted July 19, 2023 Just now, ebr said: Hi. Are you sure you are playing TV episodes with proper season and episode data? I have like 10 at the moment, but since I started using Emby, was 20 - in total, and never saw autoplay working. "Proper season and episode data”? Looks ok
ebr 16169 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Hi. What are those screen shots from? That's not Emby and that's not properly identified seasons and episodes of a series.
nusuzst 31 Posted July 19, 2023 Author Posted July 19, 2023 From Qnap - files (view) That are screenshots from Emby. Is that bad file naming?
ebr 16169 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Okay, yes, the issue is definitely identification. That looks like a straight folder view of video files as opposed to a properly identified series with seasons and episodes. Exactly how have you configured this library? What type? Pointing to what folder(s)? How, exactly, are those files organized within the folders? TV Naming

I see that Embry's recognition of the series is correct but the file name must be very accurate - sorry, I didn't know that! I fought if Emby recognises TV series - the job is done. But now when I'm typing this...I'm wondering why need to be super specific? Why can't play just the next file? You can see from the picture that the episodes are in order - even The File names are different in each folder containing TV series or Tv shows. In most cases, Emby is sorting them correctly. Why naming must be so specific if Emby recognise already sequence of episodes? All types of naming files are sorted correctly. There is no way it can pick up from there?
nusuzst 31 Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 (edited) If I would be again 15, all my collections would -be sorted and named correctly. Just spotless. But now when I have 2 kids, and own business - I need simplicity. That's why I needed a solution like Emby - “Netflix with my movie collection” And Emby does that, with all info, intros, and trails, movie/tv description and even ratings. So why not easy auto play next file? - doesn't matter what name, or year, or type it is? Edited July 20, 2023 by nusuzst
nusuzst 31 Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Additional: Emby LG TV app If you press “play all" all videos are going in the right order - naming can be random. The problem is - always starts from 1 part. and have to go “next" a lot of times if you are in the half of the season. So it kind of works but is not. I believe after so many years many users are used to “auto-play next file" without specific formatting. It's just a “default" option in all video players.
Luke 42077 Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Right well this is currently expected behavior. Why not setup a TV library instead like ebr has suggested?
nusuzst 31 Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Sorry for being a pain in the ass it's just because I love Emby, I know what you trying to do with this project. And I'll support you with all my heart but some time is missing a small but major thing that ruins all the fun. You naturally want to do something but it's not there. Were all other programs/apps using the same idea we are use to it. I'm using Emby dail, if I'm not watching a movies/TV series, I play music. I drive my car, I'm using Emby to listen to my music. I'm not using Emby, my kids are using it to watch cartoons. My NAS server is 65% Emby and 45% - business and files.

Why not setup a TV library instead like ebr has suggested? Like I said. Emby is all in one app. All trailers, movie descriptions, cast, chapters, Emby done it for me. I just selected one folder and he pick up all data for 200 movies, and 300 episodes of different TV series I have. Indexed 27k mp3, downloaded a lot of art, and provided a lot of information about DJs. Some of the are very rare. All I did is selected 1 folder (and a few sub folder). I think that was amazing! Mind-blowing! Magical. And Now we come to "autoplay" ... Feature that practically already working now but is not, and never will because I'll not spend hours googling and retyping all that names. My wife would kill me if I would do just that for a couple of days. So back to old school. Back, select next file, play, and repeat. Edited July 20, 2023 by nusuzst
nusuzst 31 Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 If you really want to stick with naming file system that's ok, but please add “play all FROM HERE” to the episode play menu this will practically solve the problem and everybody will be happy I believe most of the Emby users don't mess with file names. I'm watching the series and deleting it, then going to the next one.
