Odd video file detection with Home videos

I tried creating an extras library for some of my movies which I've set to the Home videos and Photos type and for some reason, one of them is missing a bunch in emby.

The folder structure looks like this:

Extras
└── Drag Me to Hell/
    ├── Interviews/
    │ ├── Curses! - interview with actress Lorna Raver.mkv
│ ├── Hitting All The Right Notes - interview With Composer Christopher Young.mkv
│ ├── Interviews with director Sam Raimi, actress Alison Lohman, and actor Justin Long.mkv
│ └── To Hell and Back - interview with actress Alison Lohman.mkv
    ├── Promo Material/
    │ ├── Theatrical Trailer.mkv
    │ └── TV Spots.mkv
    ├── Production Video Diaries.mkv
    └── Still Gallery.mkv

And emby in folders view(same with Videos view) is only showing the last 3 and no folders, even though TV Spots is located into one:

There's no filters enabled, everything is pretty much at defaults and the other stuff in Extras, the root library folder, is displaying everything as it is, subfolders and all.

I'm using Emby 4.7.13.0 from the package manager on FreeBSD 13.2.

Every file and folder has the read permission for everybody and there's no errors in the log if I do a library scan on that specific library:

There's nothing different with the undetected videos so I'm really not sure what's happening here.

No idea what the issue could be for this? It's very odd.

HI, this is a tricky case. The Interviews folder gets dropped due to being sort of a reserved keyword in our system.

The good news though is that I believe in the upcoming 4.8 server release if you were to setup a brand new library, I don't think this would happen.

What about the Promo Material folder, is that also a special reserved name?

No, that one should be fine, but in the 4.7 release any video with trailer in the name will get treated as a trailer and not shown in the main listing. This has also been improved in the upcoming 4.8 release.

Revisited this issue in 4.8.11.0 today and basically all the problems I had are still present. The only difference since is that "Promo Material" is now displayed as a folder with "TV Spots.mkv" inside instead of it being displayed at the root. This seems to only be the case for a fresh install though, it hasn't changed at all on my upgraded installation even is I do a library scan and a metadata refresh.

What exactly is the problem in 4.8?

You can simply read the first post again and the issue is exactly the same for an upgraded installation, nothing changed.

For a new installation, apply this modification to it:

What is the expected result?

Being able to see all the videos so I can watch them.

OK I've got this resolved on the beta channel for the next 4.9 build in case you'd like to try that. Thanks.

I just tried with 4.9.0.50 beta and I get the exact same behavior as the latest stable package. I tried removing the library and adding it again with no change. I can still only see 3 videos out of the 8.

Deleting /var/db/emby-server to reset everything also did not help.

Also, when installing the beta, it complained that it wanted mbedtls2(which is deprecated) instead of mbedtls3 that the download page says to install.

Missing dependency 'mbedtls2'

Was kinda misleading, I assumed the next 4.9 build was referring to release and there was nothing after testing that was indicating testing wasn't possible right now.

Just tried 4.9.0.51 and nothing has changed, still only 3 out of the 8 videos will show up.

The ones with reserved words like "trailer" in the filename and the folder "Interviews" don't show up at all so I have no way to watch them.

Edit: Slight correction, the Interviews folder and its content showed up after I did a fresh install, but the one with trailer in the name is still hidden.

I’m guessing the TV spots video will have a trailer button that will play that file. Not totally ideal but it is progress. It’s due to the trailer recognition being extra lenient about the trailer file name as many users don’t name their trailers according to guidelines but still expect them to be detected as such.

Your guess would be correct, there is a trailer option under it and it does play that file.

Yes unwinding this is tricky because then all of the users with poorly named trailer files will come out of the woodwork and complain that things have stopped working.

It would be simple if there was an extra view type that simply displayed files as a file manager would, ignoring all specials associations like those.

Everyone used to how things work now have what they want still and those of us who just want to browse our files could too.
