Dan33702 0 Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 I have a lot of shows and movies that default playing with closed captioning turned on. Is there a way to make closed captioning optional? This is not to be confused with subtitles. I want to keep my subtitles on when applicable.
Luke 42081 Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 Hi there, have you explored your emby user subtitle preferences? What are they set to?
Dan33702 0 Posted July 16, 2023 Author Posted July 16, 2023 I wouldn't have thought that closed captioning settings would be tied in with subtitle settings.
pwhodges 2012 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 "Closed captions" is an ambiguous term. I presume you mean "forced subtitles", in which case the word "forced" is a clue! You can either remove the forced flag, or try setting Emby to play no subtitles and then select the ones you want before (or during) playing I can't remember if "smart" always plays forced subtitles or not). I presume you mean "forced subtitles" I assume they are referring to closed captions that are embedded in video streams from TV broadcasts. While these are technically different from subtitles, they are functionally equivalent and we treat them as such for the sake of preferences.
pwhodges 2012 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 That would make it harder to explain their problem, unless you treat them as forced (I have no reason to think you do, though). But maybe the answer for the OP is simply to try the different subtitle options, not just default. Paul
crusher11 1102 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I think OP means SDH subs, they want dialogue-only subs to play instead. Emby doesn't know the difference, so there's nothing that can be done.
pwhodges 2012 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Whatever they are, you can still tell Emby to stop playing them - unless they are actually burnt-in, of course. Paul
