My Emby server (Windows computer) crashed and all was lost. Unable to save anything. Please help. How can I restart as new and not lose my Emby Premiere. Thanks

Hi, do you have any backups at all? Otherwise you'll need to make a fresh start. Your Emby Server is personal, meaning entirely owned and managed by you. We don't keep any kind of backup in the cloud or anywhere else.

You paid for your emby premiere so you are not going to lose that, all you have to do is get emby back up and running and you will be fine.  Now, if you lost all your content then your path depends upon what kind of content.  If you have mostly DVD and Blu-Ray rips of discs you own you simply have a lot of work ahead of you after the expense of building a new computer.  If, like me, you also have a large collection of content that has been recorded from Cable TV and you don't have back ups then you are going to really be starting over and hoping those shows and movies you want are aired again for you to record.

It is for exactly this reason I have physical 1:1 backups of every piece of content I have.  I use 16TB drives and then use cheap 4TB drives as the backups that are stored offline.  Don't be discouraged about this if your content is recorded.  I started using emby in the late Fall of 2019 and quickly encoded everything in H.264 and deleted all my recordings only to find that HEVC was superior and started all over only to find out many months later my settings were sub par and once again started all over again.  If patient you can replace everything but it is definitely a lot of work.

Hi. Sorry this happened but you will not lose your Premiere status.  Just put your key back in  your server when you get it set back up.  Good luck!

Thanks for your responses. Much appreciated. Unfortunately, no backups but all my recorded material is from music and videos that I own. It obviously will be a lot of work to record again. With a fresh start, do I have to use the previous Server name?

Nope, not a requirement.  I have changed my server names several times.

Sorry to hear of your situation.

#1 on your list ideally before you start - 'what is my backup solution if this unfortunately happens again ?'

Depending on the size of the storage - an external USB HDD may be a good portable solution.
