Hello Forum.

I'm going to set up a new MBS Server for my family.

In heavy times, the server must be able to transcode two streams at once, from HD to HD quality. My current CPU Q8400 is not able to handle this, so it's time to upgrade.

I'm thinking of buying a 2011-3 Socket Mainboard with Core I7-5930K CPU. This setup is really expensive and is it worth it? Maybe an i5 is enough on a 1150 Socket?

Or maybe a dual CPU system? But this seems only to be possible with a XEON CPU. :-/

Any Ideas?

Would say that setup is a little overkill. An i5 4670k should be plenty and has the overclock if necessary. Im sure people on here have been transcoding multiple streams in HD with a similar setup.

Hi c0m3r.

Thank you very much for your words. I will give it a try with the i5 4670k as I think, the difference between i5 and i7 is not worth the price.

By all means, if you have the money and are willing to spend it then an i7 is a great buy but personally, if I were in your position I would go for the i5 and spend the extra elsewhere on good HDD's, RAM etc.

I have the i5 and I have no problems with it being able to take whatever I throw at it so far
