CoryRosenberg 3 Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 I have an Nvidia shield connected directly into my LG Sounbar. When playing a movie through an external player like VLC, DTS works, but when playing the same movie trough the embedded emby player it converts it to stereo and DTS does not activate (Dolby works fine!). I've tried deactivating the DTS passthrough options in the playback menu but nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have any tips? I've tried to find a some forums online but noone has a solution to this issue.
ebr 16177 Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
CoryRosenberg 3 Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 as you can see DTS doesn't activate when being played with embedded player, but works fine with VLC. If I use the Emby player it just converts to stereo. embyserver.txt
ebr 16177 Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Can you please play that item for a few seconds and then follow the instructions to send a log from the app?
CoryRosenberg 3 Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 I've just sent the log. 14:57/14:58 approx. User Cory
ebr 16177 Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Hi. it doesn't look like the system is reporting support for DTS. Exactly how is the Shield connected to the soundbar? Are there options in the playback settings in the app for "Allow DTS" and "Allow DTS-HD"? How are the audio settings on the Shield itself set?
CoryRosenberg 3 Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 The shield is connected via HDMI ARC, everything is activated for DTS to work... It works in the external VLC player but not the Emby player...

Luke 42078 Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 Also, Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
rbjtech 5284 Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 The order of the HDMI physical connections is important. The chain needs to be - a. (correct) Shield > LG Sound Bar > TV b. (incorrect) Shield > TV < LG Sound Bar (ARC) If you are using ARC (option b) - then you are passing the sound 'through' the TV which may not necessarily support DTS (most don't these days). By using option a - you are not using ARC at all - and the Shield will use the sound capabilities directly from the LG Sound Bar - it does not care what the TV can or cannot do - as all it does is passthrough the VIDEO. If you are using option b then tbh I'm unsure why VLC works with DTS - maybe it is forcing it regardless of what the TV is reporting and the TV is just passing it through .. ? Also As per Eric's comment - ensure the Shield itself is set to 'Auto' - don't try and force the codecs.
daedalus 434 Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 (edited) bet its a tcl tv and emby simply is not triggering the builtin dts decoder like how they act as they had never heard of it Edited July 8, 2023 by daedalus
CoryRosenberg 3 Posted July 8, 2023 Author Posted July 8, 2023 (edited) I finally found the issue. I had to deactivate auto sound formats (Atmos, Dolby Digital DTS etc) in the Shield menu and set it to manual. From there I activated all of the formats and bingo. DTS now works... The shield is directly connected to the soundbar and the sounbar to the TV via ARC (The TV is also set to passhtrough). I no longer have audio lag too. Everything is running smoothly. Thanks for your help in trying to solve this issue. Edited July 8, 2023 by CoryRosenberg 2
