Bill4sman 10 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) Downloading some movies it seem the HDR settings are screwed up A Lot. This happens constantly when grabbing video from the web so what's going on? "Color space is not supported." Plex gives me this error while Emby will play the media but with messed up coloring. Bill4sman 10 Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 Dolby Vision is the problem it turns out...
visproduction 315 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Dolby vision annual license for a facility is $2500. That might buy you the rights to convert colors inside an app. Perhaps you can ask for donations to get this done? Ha.... https://professionalsupport.dolby.com/s/article/How-to-obtain-a-Dolby-Vision-license-to-unlock-the-trim-controls
Bill4sman 10 Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 If only it were worth that but plenty of options
Luke 42078 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Solution rbjtech 5284 Posted June 24, 2023 Solution Posted June 24, 2023 (edited) Simply put - you are using media that is designed for streaming with Dolby Vision (profile 5) ONLY. If you use media that is HDR10 only OR media that has both HDR10 and DV (Dolby Vision profile 8 ) then you won't have this issue .... I believe Emby will soon differentiate between the Dolby Vision profiles - thus giving you some extra information on why it is playing like it is. I know for a fact that the DV profile info is now collected and stored (in the latest beta at least) but I'm unsure when this will be presented to the client rather than just saying 'Dolby Vision' imo - dv5 - should say 'Dolby Vision Only' dv7 and dv8 - should say 'HDR10 / Dolby Vision' @softworkz @Luke Edited June 24, 2023 by rbjtech
Bill4sman 10 Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Yes, I had found earlier where it was the DV issue and, even though my Nvidia Shield supports DV, My Samsung is "Quantum HDR 16X" whatever that is supposed to be.

So unless Samsung change their policy (very unlikely), unfortunately all Samsung devices will not support any version of Dolby Vision. Therefore stick to HDR10 or HDR10+.
Bill4sman 10 Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Not sure if there's a workaround but hopefully at some point. Never cared for Dolby...
