Hi.  Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Clearly the previous version of Android TV worked perfectly well - so 'something' external has changed.

@Mkilbride

Looking at the log, you are using PGS subs - these 'should' play directly without transcoding on the shield - but I would try again with them off (to test)

A log from the previous direct play (of the same item) would be good to compare.

just was playing, next episode came up and transcoded.  All the previous ones said "Direct",

Hi.  So that implies that episodes 1, 2 and 3 played fine but episode 4 had an error (numbers are just examples) as opposed to the title of this topic which implies that the exact same file played fine at one point and then not at another.

Which scenario is it?

Episodes 1 and 2 played without transcoding.

Then episode 3 played with transcoding. Going back to 1 and 2, if I played them - they now transcoded. I restarted my Shield, and my PC, and they still transcoded. Going to 4 it transcoded. 5 then did not transcode, so I went back to 1,2, 3 and 4, and they were not transcoding.

All while using the same PGS subs. It seemeed random.  As for logs when it didn't transcode, well I don't really see anything like that.

As for the Emby for Android App, always been a pain when I sideloaded it before, the Android TV version works best 100%.

So emby is not going to change the way it analyses the file - the only thing that may be different each time is the external environment.   Is this a wired or wireless connection to the shield ?   Is the file on a nas - is it perhaps busy with other tasks ?

Can you give it a try for comparison purposes? Thanks.
