monnieharden 0 Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 I have just installed starlink and emby works fine on the local network but i am unable to sign in remotely to emby and stream on my phone or other devices while away. Any help would be greatly appriciated
darkassassin07 652 Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Starlink uses CGNAT so you won't be able to reach it directly. You'll need an external service to be able reach your server. A vps running a vpn that your server connects to, or something like cloudflare tunnels. 1

monnieharden 0 Posted September 14, 2023 Author Posted September 14, 2023 I did subscribe to pia access vpn and turned on port forwarding but still cannot connect remotely. The weird thing is I can connect to Plex remotely

The weird thing is I can connect to Plex remotely Because they have a relay feature where they can route everything through their own servers when a direct connection isn’t possible. If you disable this you’ll probably run into the same problem.
monnieharden 0 Posted September 16, 2023 Author Posted September 16, 2023 is there a better VPN that will work with emby vs PIA Access?

To use PIA or other VPN services it needs to support port forwarding. Ths may be an option on some VPN systems. The trick to getting this working in Emby is to change Emby's port to match what the VPN gives you for your public port. This is PIA specific but similar to the process on many VPNs. Subscribe to PIA and download the VPN client. Open the PIA client on your device. Go to Settings > Network and turn on “Request Port Forwarding”. Select a server that supports port forwarding and connect to it. Close the settings menu and click the large Connect button. After you are connected, PIA will return your forwarded port on the main screen. Set this port up as the unsecured port. Carlo
beefsnack 16 Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 This is what I did exactly, And I use PIA and it works fine.
MagicDoubleM 121 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Check if you can do a private vpn via Wireguard (maybe your router supports that), otherwise there is Tailscale, which is pretty awesome and free.

Luke 42077 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Users have also said good things about TailScale.
Badwolf 6 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 I use CloudFlare zero trust tunnel. Works great. Free. Only cost is the domain name.

Carlo Does the PIA forwarded port stay the same if my Emby Server gets rebooted, and can the client on my server be set to connect automatically? Just wondering how a power glitch at home would affect my ability to reach the Emby Server through PIA while I'm on the road.

The server should stay the same if you have a power outage and your unit reboots.
