IP Remote Control Protocols

Hi all,

Can someone please provide me or point me to the remote control protocols for Emby?

I want to be able to remote control Emby at the server level, having it push/control content on an endpoint.

I also need to be able to scrub, monitor (real time feedback), media guide and cover art....

Any help appreciated!!!!

Login as Admin to get the dashboard.  Use SCP software of your choice to run a FTP type server and login to move files around or remote desktop control of your choice to control anything else.  Emby does remote dashboard only.  You need other software for file movement between folders or access to video editing.

Not sure I understand....

Isn't there a document available that shows how to control Emby from an IP remote like Control4???

Does Control4 have support for REST API?

If so, then you can probably take a look here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/wiki/Remote-control and peruse around for other useful commands for your project.

Thank you!

I actually don't use Control4 but it was a good example of the system I do use, which does support the RestApi.

Is there a way to pull a media guide or playback status over IP?

For example, current playback time, time left, cover art, etc.????

I appreciate your patience.

Can't speak to whether they're actually interested in or willing to help you but pünktchen may be able to point you towards documentation or resources. The VirtualTV plugin is excellent and interacts with Emby Server in ways you're describing.

Thank you!!!!

@pünktchen - any chance you have the info to pull this stuff from Emby???

It's only going to be used for an IP Remote vendor to integrate full media guide capability and play status from the Emby server...

TIA!!!

I'm not sure i understand your question, but i think what you asking for are the SessionService endpoints of the Rest API.
At the bottom of the Emby dashboard you'll find a link to the API.

@NoWorries1968  I see that RoomieRemote supports nvidia shield and apple tv.  I would expect you would be able to run the Emby clients on those devices now without needing to mess with the server.

They do, and it does.  It doesn't support anything I've suggested above, that I know is supported by Emby.

It supports Kodi, which to many, is a completely bloated app to run on a client, when you already have a perfectly capable server (whether or not it's a Kodi Server).

Just sayen.

Bill - my apologies. I do appreciate your advice, above.

My answer was a big terse and I didn't mean it to be.

I have both of those devices and the reason I'm looking for the protocols is because I've switched to a DuneHD player.

AppleTV doesn't support anything other than one DV profile, making it impossible to stream DV videos locally...

NVidia is 100% Android based and, therefore, is limited by Android's OS limitations...

Don't get me wrong, the Nvidia is an excellent device, but the Dune's picture quality is SO amazing if you look at it side by side with the Nvidia... that's my reasoning, as stupid as it might be.... :D

@NoWorries1968 No worries (pun intended :) ).  This Dune device looks interesting. I haven't heard of it before. Pricetag is a bit steep for me for TV :)
