Artists View and Sort Title Questions

Recommended Posts

So I was looking at my Artists view and noticed that all the compilation albums have a random Artist number assigned as its title (see below).  Then when I looked at the metadata of one of those albums, it shows that's sorting a Sort Title value of 2 (in this instance).  (See second screenshot.)

Note: For all my compilation albums, the Album and Album Artist values are identical (per Emby's instructions).  So my question is, where/how is this random number getting assigned? And what is the Sort Title value?

Thanks,

Dale

Hi, the most likely source is the embedded information within your audio files.

I've used Media Monkey, MP3tag, Winamp, and other metadata apps and can't find anything that looks amiss in the audio files.

What do you see in the audio files?

The audio files look fine, and there are no extraneous tags or weird characters.  What exactly is Sort Title?

What do you mean by "look fine"? What exactly did you see in their embedded metadata? What software are you using to examine them?

I've used Mp3tag, Mediamonkey, Music tag, Tag Scan.

Can you show a screenshot of the contents of the embedded metadata of one or more of the files?

I finally figured it out.  In the Album field, I had appended a date after the album title (e.g. 10/20/87), and once I removed the date, it's all good now.  It's taken me days to figure it out, but I changed every field until I found the one that was causing the problem.  Makes no sense, but it works.
