russellspindler 0 Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 I have gone through the somewhat painful process of setting up Emby in an unprivileged ubuntu LXC container in Proxmox. The tricky part being getting my GPU to work in the container. When I run nvidia-smi in both the host and container, it appears to being working. When I start up live tv or a show that should utilize the hardware acceleration, I get the little green box that say it is transcoding using the gpu. All that being said, there is an error being noted in my hardware detection log. What I don't know is if it matters. I have attached both a hardware detection log and a transcode log which I guess will show whether the GPU was actually working. Is nvidia-smi supposed to look different when the gpu is working? I guess I thought that is should but it never seems to look any different. Before I start trying to figure out this error message regarding /dev/dri/renderD128 I want to be sure it's actually something I need to fix. russellspindler 0 Posted May 7, 2023 Author Posted May 7, 2023 Ughh, I did a search before posting but I guess I missed this one as I believe I found my answer: According to softworkz, this has something to do with VAAPI detection and since the Nvidia GPU does not support VAAPI, you will get this error but its nothing to be concerned about. If I'm reading this wrong someone let me know, but otherwise, I think I'm good. I'll read up more on how to use nvidia-smi.
Luke 42078 Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Quote I'll read up more on how to use nvidia-smi. Hi, let us know how you get on. You may also want to try the 4.8 beta server in case the updated ffmpeg build helps at all. Thanks.
