I've been experiencing very long time load times recently, which normally results in emby failing to load, all I see is the 'My Media' selection, upon selecting TV Shows it sometimes results 'No Results Found' and sometimes results in being able to select a TV show or go to Suggestions and being able to use Continue watching.

I'm using the latest Stable Windows build under Windows 10, the hardware is old but was working fine for many months, it's an old Surface Pro 3 i7, hard wired ethernet connection to my router and using a Roku Premium/4k via WiFi, looking at Task manager I can see embyserver.exe using the disk when loading but it's happening more and more. I can often exit the emby app on the Roku and go back into it several times and it eventually loads. I've looked at the logs and can't see any errors that are obvious, I was getting a Port Mapper errors so I have disabled Port Mapper and I'm still having the same issue.

I have the same issues with the web interface, but it does load eventually without having to reload, but overall the interface and dashboard is VERY slow, so I assume it's not just an issue with the Roku but I've tried resetting my Roku and I'm still having the same issues, I'm not having slowness in other apps, like Netflix, Amazon or Plex. I also have the same issue on my Roku's I'm using in the house. The issue also persists when there is just one user, which is 99.9% of the time using emby.

I'm also experience a 'ContentNotAvailable' when selecting the another episode from another show immediately after watching a show, this normally resolves it's self as emby 'refreshes' to reflect that I've just watched the show, however a lot of the time it defaults to the behavior outlined above ie just give me 'My Media'.  It's getting to point now I'm fed up. I've uninstalled a few plugins today in a hope that will help but it hasn't.

I've attached a log, the last thing I tried to do was open up Emby via my mobile, which led me to my to the issues above.

Hoping someone can give me a suggestion here.

Quick comments on the server text above.  I do not know all the internal process calls.   These are just guesses

  1. Roku calls starting 11:13 to 13:30 - Why is this happening?  Are there a lot of Roku playback media that is paused?
  2. 22 500 responses starting line 2729 Response 500 running 60 seconds appears to not find any image art for some content that is set to resume.  Too many items in resume playback?
  3. A lot of calls to get images from multiple providers.  Are the limits of how many images to download set above 4?  Perhaps that is causing an excess of activity that causes other tasks to time out.
  4. Line 3737 Running PersonNfoProvider run 480 times returning no metadata. This gets done quickly in 1 second, but is this Plug in not configured right?  Do you have to subscribe to get more than X number of downloads?  What is up with this task?
  5. line 5421 many errors reposnse 500 Emby android finding background images time out  after 46 to 133 seconds.  Just a guess:  Are the background image sizes > 1 MB and causing some timeout issues?  There is no reason to save background images that are this large.  They should be reduced.
  6. Are the shared drives reached through some 3rd party server address application and not located inside the server?  This kind of delay to find drives might be causing so many 500 failures. Perhaps the server archtecture should be adjusted so images are cached locally on the server and be no larger than 300K each.

There are some slow database queries there. I would try running a database vacuum from the server Database settings and see if that helps. Also increase the database cache size if you haven't' already.

1) No media paused anywhere, only a couple of shows that are stopped.
2) Only 2 in resume playback
3) Nope
4) No idea, this is a built in plugin from emby isn't it? Don't think it has any options to figure
5) Background images I don't think are too large, they come from thetvdb so I assume they could all vary
6) My drives are cloud based, no third party addresses, all images are stored on my device.

I didn't think of changing the the database cache, currently set to 96, so have doubled it to 192 and will do a vacuum on next boot, completely forgot about this option, I moved a lot of files around this last month so this could be causing an issue. Will report back.

I would set the cache size to as high as you're willing to go. See if that helps. Thanks.

Thanks for your help.

What's the maximum I should set and what negative impacts will this have if any?

The load time seems to be better now, I did experience an issue as described above but went back into emby and loaded fairly quickly the 2nd time.

Hmm, I've noticed that some of the lower res media images don't download quickly at all.  I am guessing that Emby leaves the low res image link on these images suppliers like thetvdb as URL links and therefore they are really slow to populate.  I try to choose images I like that are about 1000 x 1500.  I think those might get cached locally and therefore they show up.  All the low res remote choices have always had many that fail to appear.

Hope that helps.

As much ram as you're willing to allocate.
