dragonbytes 1 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Hi, I have a small all-in-one box computer i'm using as my Emby Server. It has an intel Celereon J4125 x86-based CPU with 4 cores and 4 threads running at 2.0 ghz and has 8GB of ram. It shipped with Windows 11 Pro but I am considering migrating the server to an ubuntu-based distro instead. I do rely alot on hardware-accelerated transcoding that is possible with QuickSync built in to the CPU so I mainly wanted to ask if Intel QuickSync works reliably under linux and performs on a similar level to Windows. Since it's an all-in-one SoC computer, adding a discrete GPU isn't really an option. Would appreciate any advice or guidance you might have. Thanks.
Q-Droid 989 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 I think you can expect the same level of performance and capabilities on Linux. Windows has an edge on what's supported for the very newest gens of Intel CPU/iGPU - support is usually available earlier on Windows though when Linux catches up they typically perform the same.
