I realized some missing "backdrop" option on FireTV Stick.

One picture tells 1000 words, see this GoPro footage displayed on a native LG TV app:

And now see the same file displayed on FireTV Stick's Emby:

There are 2 problems here:

  1. There is a tiny small image on a huge black background. I'd really prefer having the same as on LG TV, it looks much better.
  2. For "GX010034", the media details section provides "GX0104 (mp4)" title, which is incorrect.

Are these known issues, and planned to be fixed?

My versions:

Emby Server: 4.7.11.0
FireTV App: 2.0.79a

Thank you!

That's actually showing the primary image as a backdrop which, IMO, isn't usually gonna look so hot...

@ebr: yes, but this library is home videos, so no metadata can be downloaded, therefore we only have images extracted from the videos (which can still be portrait I admit), but still, lgtv seems handling this much better.

@LukeI'll try the standard app, yes, will let you know here.

One more thing: is my version the latest available on firetv stick? Or maybe I already sideloaded Emby once (few years back) which then prevented updates?

Let me know please

@ebr: this is the problem:

In Emby Theatre, when I set "TV Mode" as display, shows the image as background. If it's portrait, it is a bit ugly:

In Emby Theatre we can set diplay mode to "Desktop" or "Tablet", both are working similar:

TVs usually has "TV" display mode preset, and it can't be changed. So they just simply provides the two huge black bars in case of a vertical video.

However, and this is the problem here: Amazon FireTV doesn't seem following either of this display views:

  • it's not making fullscreen background of the extracted videoframe (=No TV Mode) AND
  • it's not decorating nicely the image, similar to all other platforms do (=NO Tablet/Desktop mode)
  • FireTV doesn't have the option to set display mode

Hi.  Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares?

Thanks.

@LukeShall I go with the ARM7 option? (My FireTV is having this processor: ARM Cortex-A53, which is ARMv8)

@danergoI've updated the website to include the armv8 version, so you can try that.
