Manfrotto 2 Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Upgraded to latest DSM and then to Emby Version 4.8.11.0 and that seems to have fixed it! I think I was avoiding the DSM upgrade because it removes hardware encoding on the NAS to improve efficiency and performance, but I think I'll be able to live with that. Overall I'm finding Emby much easier to use than Plex, so thanks for everyone's suggestions and help and hopefully I won't have any more issues! 1 1
LostInTheFold 4 Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 (edited) I had been stuck on 4.8.10.0 and then a manual upgrade to 4,8.11.0 was needed and then another manual upgrade to the current version of 4.9.1.80, yes I know that last one was probably a big bump. I have been using multi-versions for some time now and it has been working for me. However, when I went to this current version, I noticed that it has broken for me. All of my files are in the same folder, and I am almost always careful to copy and paste the folder name as the file name pre "-". Now, keep in mind the movies that I am currently complaining about are not new movies, these are movies that used to be working which is double confounding as to why they are not now. This is my path to one example which has been working for a little over a year now, my files are dated May 2024. \Network Storage\Emby\Movies\B\Big 1988 Sorry for the mix of images and copy paste of folder, but it is on a network which makes it harder to get direct pathing as there is no letter assigned to my network folder. Not quite a NAS, but it is a network share. Edited October 12, 2025 by LostInTheFold

Not quite a NAS, but it is a network share. Everything looks correct but may need to see complete content of the folder. And your server version jump is normal as it was Release 4.8.11.0 updated to 4.9.1.80. But have not really played around with the new library setting but what is the value of "Multi-version item detection" set to on the library?
Luke 42077 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 Hi, yes we’ll need to see that and also how the grouping options are configured on the library. Thanks.
LostInTheFold 4 Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 Sorry for the extreme delay on this, I had notifications turned on but didn't get an email. Here is the folder contents for Big, Big/extras and Big/trailers Re: grouping settings, I have looked all through my settings and couldn't find, I have also looked on the help wiki and I see things for collections, but that isn't quite what I am looking for, so I am not sure how to provide you the information that you are looking for. Honestly, I was trying to figure out if it was not set correctly myself, but I just don't see it. If you can point me to it, I would be grateful.

LostInTheFold 4 Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 Many thanks. I happened to do some more and found it. I was always afraid to "left click" on the library as sometimes it acts like it wants to go into the library itself on some aspects. Anyway, this is what I have.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 Does it happen on all multi-version movies or only some? Is there a pattern on movies it does not work, like those folders having extra folders or something similar? As a sidenote, you can always manually merge those movies: multi-select (hover over poster top-left corner>tick) both items, select "Group Versions" from three-dot menu top-right of the screen.
LostInTheFold 4 Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 Ok, I don't know every instance as my library is sizeable, not as big as some I have seen posted here, but it is over 500 movies and only some have multi-version. One thing that i noticed was unique is that for Blade Runner I have the boxed set and some of the movies are grouped, and one of them is by itself. So, far I have not specifically noticed a given pattern other than after upgrading it stopped working. For whatever reason on Blade Runner I get the below items: I did not have this issue before updating to the latest version, so that is partly what is confounding me. It was working fine, where for the upgrade, I was instructed to uninstall and then download and re-install, which I did and now I have this behavior. Just out of curiosity, I noticed that the setting I have is based on file name AND metadata, should I try changing it to filename only??
LostInTheFold 4 Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 I should probably make a comment that most Blu-Rays that have multiple versions are also likely to have extras and or a trailer. So far what I have seen is that every movie I have seen that has this has had at least an "extras" folder.

HI, sorry, what are we looking at here? folder names matter, so we need to see those at each level as well. Please make sure the screenshots include that information. Thanks.

Thanks !
Luke 42077 Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 Until we have that info, my theory on the issue is that one of the blade runners has external id's in the metadata editor that do not exactly match the other versions. if you get this corrected then it may resolve the issue.
LostInTheFold 4 Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 Again, sorry for the delay, but I don't seem to be getting notified when there are comments to this thread even though I have turned on notifications for this thread. I know the thread you messaged me with was someone being quite pissy, and I hate to do that, but are you suggesting that every single folder that I have is miss labeled when it used to work before I upgraded? I can also tell you that I literally copy my folder names to rename my files to prevent this very problem. I will however provide you my folder name for Blade Runner to show you that it isn't/shouldn't be messed up. I would have thought that by providing full examples of something that was clearly not working (Big) would have been enough to show you that I have a problem, it appears as though that want. Blade Runner was meant to be an additional example of how I was seeing some things work and some things not work which was odd. But does not explain how Big was completely not working. You asked for additional information if something was working and so I tried to provide some of that, yet you don't answer my main question of why the stuff that isn't working isn't working. Again, this is on a network share that doesn't have a drive letter so doing this all via cmd prompt is a bit difficult. Wish windows was a bit more friendly when it comes to that. Looks like I found a way to get that, hopefully it didn't permanently give a letter to my drive. 01/16/2025 02:42 PM <DIR> behind the scenes 05/27/2023 08:21 PM 1,298,313,403 Blade Runner 1982 - Directors Cut.mkv 03/15/2025 08:59 PM 8,462 Blade Runner 1982 - Directors Cut.nfo 05/27/2023 07:26 PM 898,941,236 Blade Runner 1982 - Final Cut.mkv 05/28/2023 12:31 AM 1,079,811,099 Blade Runner 1982 - International Theatrical Release.mkv 05/28/2023 01:37 AM 1,095,569,299 Blade Runner 1982 - US Theatrical Release.mkv 05/29/2023 08:47 PM 1,271,413 clearlogo.png 01/16/2025 02:41 PM <DIR> extras 05/29/2023 08:47 PM 236,476 fanart.jpg 05/28/2023 12:13 PM 524,120 landscape.jpg 05/29/2023 08:47 PM 265,317 poster.jpg 09/19/2024 10:43 PM <DIR> trailers 9 File(s) 4,374,940,825 bytes 5 Dir(s) 20,848,069,672,960 bytes free Z:\Emby\Movies\B\Blade Runner 1982> And now since I have a method for running this in the command prompt, here is Big. 10/20/2025 10:29 PM <DIR> . 10/08/2025 12:07 PM <DIR> .. 05/18/2024 09:06 PM 14,904,062,932 Big 1988 - Extended.mkv 10/20/2025 10:29 PM 14,356 Big 1988 - Extended.nfo 05/19/2024 12:07 AM 9,422,181,376 Big 1988 - Theatrical.mkv 10/20/2025 10:29 PM 3,507 Big 1988 - Theatrical.nfo 12/08/2024 06:05 PM 1,026,182 clearlogo.png 01/16/2025 02:27 PM <DIR> extras 12/08/2024 06:05 PM 516,900 fanart.jpg 09/18/2024 10:21 PM 336,782 landscape.jpg 10/05/2024 12:26 PM 256,130 poster.jpg 09/19/2024 10:36 PM <DIR> trailers 8 File(s) 24,328,398,165 bytes 4 Dir(s) 20,848,069,672,960 bytes free Z:\Emby\Movies\B\Big 1988>

I didn't quite follow that, can you explain that to me so that I can check it please? Many thanks.

LostInTheFold 4 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 They are different, one is blank, the other has an IDMDB value in it. It has been a long time since I ripped this and set this one up.
LostInTheFold 4 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 OK, so I get why that might perhaps be an issue with Blade Runner, and I can fix that one if I just need to fix the metadata fields. However, I also mentioned BIG had a problem as well as several other movies. Most of the movies I just merged as it was simple. I also double checked and renamed the names of both of them as well as refreshed the metadata, as one was showing up as "BIG" with the date under it and the other was showing up as "BIG 1988". So, something was different in Emby's eyes. I have refreshed the browser several times waited about 10 minutes etc and this is still what I have. My ASD is going to make me align the file lengths (numbers only) so that it is a little more in line, but that is the only thing I changed manually about the folder structures and that is only to make it easier to read and validate. Thanks so much for looking into this.
