HawkXP71 112 Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Lately, a number of Apple TV videos have a horrible pink tone, Im assuming its a HDR/SDR palette issue. It shows up in Handbrake and VLC as well (captures shown), any ideas? What can I do to fix it?
Luke 42079 Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
jellis413 4 Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 It is a Dolby Vision file (DoVi). There might be another way, but I would grab non-DV files unless you have a Dolby Vision TV.

Nevertheless, Emby should be able to transcode this, correct @Luke? @HawkXP71, You need to send logs for when this is happening to the developers so they can look into it.

However, this time I havent added it to emby, simply tried VLC and handbrake. No errors show up at all
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 What version of Dolby Vision? Is it DV5? That one doesn't have associated HDR fallback info, and so is harder to handle. Paul

I would HIGHLY recommend since you stated it cant be transcoded due to the missing tonemap in Profile 5 DV, Emby give out an error and not play it, otherwise Emby will get blamed I wasnt blaming Emby since I tried it in VLC and even handbrake had it looking like crap. But my bet with Apple putting out more videos with this profile, its going to be more prevalent.. Scott 1

Scott Yep - and has been said before - now that Emby can properly analyse the dv profile - it should simply say 'DV + HDR10' for Video's that do have a backwards compatibility track (DV7 and DV8) and say 'DV Only' (or maybe just DV) for those that don't. (DV5) It's s shame Emby hasn't fully implemented all the information that ffmpeg is providing them ..
