wakeboarder141 40 Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) Having collections gets very confusing for some of my users because if they have their library set to sort by "date added" in order to show the newest movies first, they will not see some of the latest movies because they were added to an existing collection. Sorting by "date added" just sorts by the date the collection was created. Would it be possible to sort collections by "Date of last addition" or something similar? I like the collections feature, but when the newest movies "disappear" into a collection down the list somewhere it makes it confusing for many users. GrimReaper 4739 Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 That makes sense, in line with sort by "Last episode date added" for TV shows (which are 'collections' by itself), and which relates to content contained within, not TV show itself. 1

Exactly. That makes a lot more sense to me.
eightoftwelve 9 Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 I am trying to make sense of this issue. I also have an issue where when I add a new movie that is part of an existing collection and then I view movies by date added, it does not show the collection in the correct spot. I recently wrote a script to iterate through all the collections (boxsets) and find the latest datecreated field for each movie and then update the datecreated field in the associated boxset, ie collection. Surprisingly, this had no impact. The collections sorted by dateadded now show the collections in the correct order, but not in the movies sort by dateadded list. It is as if the showing of collections in with movies places the collection in the order of the earliest movie datecreated in the collection, rather than the latest movie datecreated in the collection. It does not appear to use the datecreated field for the collection at all. If I am right, then this might be a relatively easy feature to implement as only the returned date needs to be fixed. If I am wrong, can you point me in the right direction why my changes have no effect. I have also tried changing the date added for the collection in the gui and it also had the same effect. Scotty

You've mentioned working on it back in July but it seems there has been no progress. I do understand that some request can't be address due to many reasons (breaking another option of the config isni't possible, not complaining just asking due to this being an issue for me also.)
Luke 42077 Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Hi, not yet, sorry, but it's certainly a good idea.

What I'd like to see, when the "Movies" section is sorted by "Date Added" move that particular collection to the front based on date added of most recent movie. 1 1
Moreje 16 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 hum...it's a bit strange, I have notifications of answers to this post and nothing here...have they been removed? BTW, is this feature still under developpment?....I feel is must not be too difficult to implement, since it is exactly the same behavior than in TV show section.... the date added for a collection must be updated each time a new movie is added to this collection

hspantera 8 Posted October 22, 2025 Posted October 22, 2025 Hello. It was great to add last episode date added to collections. Because I would like to use ACDB plug in. But only gives date added. But if one tv show was released imagine 2023. And the second e season only realesed on 2025 it will not show on top of the list. So to always show on top of the list it needs to have the last episode date added sort. If you can add that it would be great. Thanks.
hspantera 8 Posted October 22, 2025 Posted October 22, 2025 I see here that been requested on April 2023. We are in October 2025. Any news about this? Thanks. It’s been over 2 years.

hspantera 8 Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 But 3 years? And still no option for that? It will be a reality some day? Or it will take another 3 years in the desire things? Thanks.
hspantera 8 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 (edited) Still no latest episode date added for collections? In 3 years no news yet? Thanks. with the plug in acdb it was nice to have this option. Because for example on stranger things last season it will not show if collections don’t have last episode date added. So last season won’t show on top of the list because it was realesed in 2016. So new season won’t show on top. The only possible filter is latest episode date added. You should add that one. It will be great. Edited January 1 by hspantera

But only gives date added I'm not intimately familiar with this plugin but, if it is creating collections automatically, it seems the plug-in could implement this request by simply manipulating the added date of the collection itself based on the content. Since, in this case, all the collections are automatic, it probably is never useful to know the added date of the actual collection itself (it may be argued that this is never really all that useful...)
Luke 42077 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 We can add this but there are some challenges. For example, if you have a TV series added to a collection, and a new episode is added to that series, then you expect this sorting to be affected by that, right? That is going to be difficult to get those results back in a way that performs well if the query has to step through all of these links. But without doing that, then this is largely an easy addition.

Can you do the addition to movies only and not to the TV shows db?
Luke 42077 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 It will apply for all collections. It just won't step through containers to find the media. 1
