Emby freezes after updating to version 4.7.11.0

Hello!

I have been using Emby happily for a couple of years until about a week ago when I upgraded the server to version 4.7.11.0. After the upgrade, family members are reporting that Emby freezes within the first 5 minutes. I tested it and in fact, Emby freezes between the 4th and 5th minute mark. Other times, it freezes randomly at any point in time. The "fix" is to go back to the main menu and play the media again.

Details about the different devices where the freezing happens:

  • Desktop running Brave browser version 1.49.132
  • Desktop running Firefox browser
  • iPhone running Safari Brower
  • iPad running Brave browser
  • MacBook running Brave browser

Keep in mind that before the update everything worked just fine, no issues at all. Here are some screen shots from the admin dashboard showing that it is streaming but the episode froze at 4:23 from my MacBook:

Hope this helps to pin point the issue!

Hi, what you could have then try is lowering the in app quality setting. That will often help with issues such as this.

Is it recommended to leave that setting to auto?

Setting the quality setting to auto didn't help, freezing still occurs. Even setting the quality to 480p and 720kbps freezes the stream. Surely there has to be something that change between versions?

Any update on this issue? I have similar issues.

I am trying and testing with different quality settings to see what works. So far, some media has issues while other media do not.

Can you try our hosted web app with safari: http://app.emby.media

Please let us know how that compares. Thanks.

I'll give it a go.

Hello again,

I've found that using the quality of 1080p and 4 Mbps helps the stream to not freeze. I've also found that iPads are more propense to freezing compared to any other device (desktop, iPhones, laptops).
