Swarles 2 Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 Hello, I've tried to get this to work but I'm at the end of my wits at the moment. My music folder is stored at /home/user/Music (Linux Mint 21.1). Emby can't see this folder (nothing past /home/user) and if I enter the location manually it steadfastly tells me "The path could not be found. Please ensure the path is valid and try again". ls -l output for the music folder: -rwxr-xr-x 1 user user It is the same for every song in the folder, and I understood this is fine for Emby (since it would necessarily have read and execute access). For testing sake, I've even tried chmod 777 /home/user/Music but Emby gives me the same message. Then I tried the following commands: setfacl -m user:emby:rx /home/user/Music setfacl -R -m user:emby:rwX But nothing has changed. One strange thing: in the GUI, if I just right click the Music folder, permissions: it says "---" for file access for everyone (owner group others). If I change it e.g. to "read and write" it defaults back to "---". If I right click on a song in the folder though, it says read and write access for the owner and group, and read access only for others. Any wizards able to help me with this? Much appreciated
Q-Droid 989 Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 Need to see the current state before recommending any more changes. Pick a file or directory deep under /home/user/Music and run: namei -l <full path to file or dir> Also: ls -ld /home ls -ld /home/user ls -ld /home/user/Music ls -ld <full path used above>
Swarles 2 Posted April 7, 2023 Author Posted April 7, 2023 I greatly appreciate your reply, but have meanwhile found a workaround solution that I am perfectly happy with and which worked like a charm. For potential future readers experiencing this issue: I simply moved the music folder from /home/user/Music to /home/Music. For whatever reason Emby can read everything in the home folder but nothing in the user folder (despite my best efforts to change that). 1
