Rod1325 0 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Hi, new to Emby. I read a lot about Emby and decided to try it after having used Subsonic for many years. I now have Emby running, the install was a hot mess to be honest, the login process is fairly dire. Not helped by the failure of the Emby automated confirmation email that never arrives. I couldn't post here until after a few days of trying, I eventually managed to get a login. Anyway, it's runnning on a windows 10 machine. I am only using it for music. The main specific issue I have is that the music metadata is screwed. In the metadata manager, all is reported correctly and matches my actual file tags. In the "albums" view, I will get multiple albums that are titled as one of many compilation albums. But in fact, these are regular albums. But the Title and cover image will be of a compilation album that one song off the album is in. Tha actual compilation album also exists in the library, and is as it should be. If I try to edit the metadata in the album view, it allows me to, but immediately reverts back to the compilation album title after I save that. Meanwhile, the metadata manager still shows the correct data. The actual file tags are correct and have not changed, both for the compilation albums and the regular albums. So it's Emby's library that is messing with it somehow. It seems impossible to solve. My tags for the compilation albums use "various artists" and I use the compilation tag (although I have also tried removing that in case). While I'm here, despite reading everything, I am unable to see the benefit of Premiere. The matrix is just totally confusing. All the apps appear to be identical. Theater looks the same as the web app. But only functions if you pay. Why? What am I missing? If I can resolve the album issues I will likely stick with Emby as it's current and supported. If not, I'll revert to Subsonic, ancient, unsupported, but functional. Thanks for any help available.

Luke 42083 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Hi there, can you please show us a specific example? Thanks.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 What you described sounds fine but specific examples along with knowing specific examples of how the items are tagged. When compilations do not get grouped it usually comes back to an embedded tag issue. Fool proof way is having MusicBrainz ids or specifically the mbzreleaseid.

That's not what I said. All the compilations are correctly tagged and grouped in Emby. There are then multiple instances where there is an album, within which there is one song which appears in a compilation as well, which(the album) has it's title and cover image changed to match the compilation. Example: "Compilation 1" album is grouped correctly. "Song 5" on "Compilation 1" is also on "Album 10" Album 10 is displayed in Emby as "Compilation 1" with the cover image for "Compilation 1". Looking at the metadata in the metadata manager shows all information in Compilation 1 and Album 10 to be correct. Looking at the metadata for Album 10 in the album view, shows the altered title, which cannot be changed. MusicBrainz ids are not foolproof in this case. In metadata manager, these albums have MB ids which are correct.
