can I show a movie collection as a "folder" like in tv-shows?

Hi there,

I did not find a thread, so don't judge me, if this was asked before:

I know, I can make a "collection", but this is not, what I want.

If I made a collection from e.g. Star Wars I still see all nine episode as single episodes on top in my movie collection.

But I think it would make sense for me, if I see a folder like in "tv-showes" under "movie" and there I have all my Star Wars episodes, or Matrix, etc.

Is this possible? Like to show a collection instead of all single episodes?

Thank you,

Michael

In your movie library, three-dot menu>tick "Group items into collections".

Thank you @GrimReaper

As I wrote:

"If I made a collection from e.g. Star Wars I still see all nine episode as single episodes on top in my movie collection."

Any other ideas?

I obviously misunderstood your request as I cannot otherwise understand what are you trying to achieve? Have any screenshots to share that would better explain it?

I am so sorry and try my best:

I still have added them to a collection. See image fav00, fav01, fav02

I can see them in the collection and all is as I expected.

But I thought in my movie library I also see them as a collection (one poster "Star Wars") and if I click on this item, it will show up the collection with all movies inside.

But in my movie database I see all single movies (image fav04)

Does this make sense now?

Thank you for your time,

Michael

And I've already given you an answer:

Enter your movie library, click on three-dots button (next to Filter button), enable "Group items into collections".

.

I am trying to do the same thing.  I was hoping, like the Original Poster, that after creating a Collection it would show up like a Folder under Movies.  (I use Folder View)

I have checked "Group items into collections".

The Collection appears only if I choose "Collections" on the top menubar.

Before I create more Collections, I want to make sure it works How I hoped....otherwise I will figure something else out.

Forgive me if I misunderstood how this works....and forgive me if I should have created a new question instead of asking here.

Collections don't show in your Folder view, they'll show under Movies tab (if Group items into collections selected) and Collections tab. Folders view is basically just an interpretation of folder structure in your OS.

Folder view shows actual folders, not the virtual ones created in metadata; that's what it's for!

I kind of want to expand on this.

Not to lon along I watched Star Wars: Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, etc and saw that those series along with all the movies and new Live action movies filled on SO MANY aspects of the whole story arc ad George Lucas imagined it. In fact I got my wife hooked on them and we were talking to her Mom today about it.

Now all the MOVIES are in a collection of course. Can I create a custom collection that adds the TV series as well and can I MANUALLY sort those entries into a chronological order?

So, someone who is a fan of SW, or just getting started can REALLY see how George Lucas imangined and created his universe.

You have Episode 1 and 2. You see the Clones in Episode 2, but really nothing when Episode 3 and beyond come around. But you watch the 7 seasons of Clone Wars and you see SO MANY aspects of the story filled in and just HOW little Ani became Darth Vader. It REALLY adds a LOT to the saga!   Sure, there were all the books, but many people don't get into books or have the time to pick up a series of novels, but to enjoy watching a few hours ov Movies and TV each week.

A little long winded, biut I hope I get my jist across for what I'm looking to do.

Yes.

Sort of, by manually adjusting SortTitle (note that that will reflect in as how that (those) item(s) is (are) sorted in main library view, as well).

Is there a quick tutorial or can you point me in the direction of the command/menu sequence?

I've messed with sort order for shows like Firefly.  How it was SUPPOSED to air versus how it WAS aired out of order. IIRC, the DVD have them in the correct sequece. So that I can do ready enough.

Not sure, tbh. You can start and then post here once you hit the wall so we can assist you as you go along. Begin with three-dot menu on TV show level>Add to Collection, pop-up will open where you can add that show to either existing collection or you can create a new one. Once all desired movies/TV shows added, in that Collection's Edit metadata dialog change Display order to: "Sort Title", after that adjust each item SortTitle fields manually until they're shown in desired order.

You could've just changed Edit Metadata>Display order on series level to: "DVD" and Refreshed Metadata afterwards (note that that your files must be named SxxEyy accordingly, i.e. https://thetvdb.com/series/firefly/seasons/dvd/1).

Edit: This might/should help.
