does this mean that i have to versions of a movie i.e. Theatrical and Extended Edition i can't see extras from either or both of them?

Folder structure is

Superman (1978)
     |____ Movie File - Theatrical.m4v
     |____ Movie File - Extended.m4v
     |____extras

when indexed the extras go away

No, that is fine and both should show the extras.

well it does not in emby server 4.7.13.0 in (TrueNAS App Docker Container)

Happens to any movie that i "group into versions" can't find a forum thread about it or how to solve it for the way explained in the manual which is less cluttered for me for now had to cheat a little by laying out folder as such

Superman 1978
    |___ Superman 1978 - Theatrical
        |__ Movie File - Thearical.m4v
        |__ extras
    |___ Superman 1978 - Extended
        |__ Movie File - Extended.m4v
        |__ extras

for automatic grouping the movies need to be in the same folder, so you can't have the subfolders for each version.

well this was the only way to get extras to show up!

i can manually group things its not the problem!

its the extras not showing up under the method shown in the documentation

The whole point of this thread was that extras don't work when you follow automatic grouping as instructed

OK, there are improvements to this in the upcoming 4.8 server release that I think will resolve this. Thanks.

Sorry i wasn't naming a my movies totally correctly i was using a

[TAGS] {COLOR-SCHEME} Movie.MediaType.m4v format

where TAGS = FAMILY,COMEDY,ACTION etc.
COLOR-SCHEME = Color  or Black+White etc.
MediaType = bluray / dvd / vhs etc.

that helped me sort/ catalog movies in kodi in a permanent way but emby does not allow filtering by filename so i had to re-rename them then it all worked fine following the correct format

Sorry about the confusion totally a id10t error.

I am on Emby 4.9.3.0 and extras with multi-version movie still does not work.

If I put "deleted scenes.mkv" file into "extras" subfolder of the movie folder (Close encounters of the third kind)

Emby instead of showing it as an extra identifies the file as the movie "Extras" (tmdbid 1259320).

If I put it into "deleted scenes" subfolder

Emby instead of showing it as an extra identifies the file as the movie "Deleted scenes" (tmdbid 120044)
