visproduction 316 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Version 4.7.11.0 Win 10 32bit Transcoding is turned off. Original test media is H264 with AAC audio Bug? srt subtitles work fine on browser web playback. Subtitles were working, a couple months ago, when casting to TV's. They no longer appear on TV playback. The TV controller on screen lower right button is also missing. Tested Dashboard Menu / Subtitles / Subtitle mode: switched between Default and Smart - No change. Tested: 2 and 3 letter language codes. - No change. Tested browser on screen CC button during playback. Switched from Off to Subtitles. - Movie reset to start and no subtitles. Opening this controller again shows that the subtitles are still off as if this on scren CC control switch click has failed. All test srt files are an exact match to the media file name, with the extra dot 2 or 3 letter language code. Example: Media (2005) - 720P.mp4 Media (2005) - 720P.en.srt Results: Tested 4 different media with srt subs on two TV's. SRT Subtitles playback correctly 100% of the time in browser. SRT Subtitles fail when casting to two TV's, Sony and Samsung 2022 models. Tested with casting command from the server and from a remote controller on a different login account. Both TV's playback all media correctly with audio. Only the subs are missing on the TV playback. TV Controller button to turn on Subtitles for the media no longer appears in either TV. It use to be there. Browser remote TV controller [CC] button opens subtitles selection and always shows Off. Switching it to Subtitles restarts the media but still with no subtitles. TV's and server have hardwire Ethernet connections. Questions: Did a recent update introduce a bug to stop .srt files from casting to the TV's. Did this feature not get checked with the new release? === Logs: Start media playback in browser with subtitles that work. Cast to TV. Media and audio work, but subtitles are gone. Returned to browser playback and subtitles show correctly. embyserver.txt hardware_detection-63815929386.txt Edited April 1, 2023 by visproduction
Luke 42083 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Hi, is this over dlna or are you using Emby apps on the tvs?
visproduction 316 Posted April 1, 2023 Author Posted April 1, 2023 Using only DLNA. Web browser / cast icon / pick the TV / Subtitles are on / Hit play Playback works 100% - no srt subs on the TV's. Return to the browser - subs work.
Luke 42083 Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Are these older TV's? We put the subtitle info into the upnp responses. In your logs it looks like the TVs never attempt to retrieve the subtitles so it looks like they just don't support it. They might require subtitles to be burned in with transcoding.
visproduction 316 Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 Samsung 2022 65" and Sony 2021 53" both worked with the exact same .srt subtitles a few months ago. They no longer work. The Closed caption button within both TV's GUI are gone. If it was a TV update, one would think that both Sony and Samsung would not fail at the same time. I think it's an Emby bug and no one got around to testing it after an update, perhaps. This is a non plugin subtitle use, with just the .srt files in the directory with each media .mp4 file. There is no transcoding. Maybe the subs work with different setups, but they are no longer working with this combination. Has anyone tested this to confirm? Thanks.
visproduction 316 Posted April 15, 2023 Author Posted April 15, 2023 Still not working casting to two TV's but subtitles work fine on workstations, notebooks and mobile. TV's no longer have a subtitle option in their onscreen controls. The button was there in the previous release. The browser web control option does have a closed caption pull down option which checked does not stick but re-initializes the casting feed. When you look again in the browser control, it is unchecked. Can anyone else see .srt subs when casting to TV's? Is this a bug or a config issue? Did anyone QA this feature in the last release?
Solution visproduction 316 Posted May 3, 2023 Author Solution Posted May 3, 2023 Reinstalled Emby and now the subtitles are working on the TV. This appears to be no longer an issue. 1
