ZeeNetTV 4 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 When I see Plex roll out new updates at least once a week, sometimes more, it lets me know they're on their game. Then, I see Emby. It is my FAVORITE of all the open source media server by far, but I encounter SO MANY PROBLEMS!! Movies upload just fine, but TV shows are an absolute PAIN! Taking upwards of 2 or more hours to show up after plugging the file into my library. Plex, it's almost instantaneous. Every time, without fail. I don't want to leave Emby, your UI is so much more attractive than Plex with their PLAIN, boring grey, black and orange color scheme that just BEGS to be changed, but never does (oh, I take that back...they recently made the blacks blacker...forgive me lol). I have FAITH in all of you over there, you do fantastic work, but hear me out...to me, if you're a company not rolling out updates to improve the functionality of the page, you, as a company, should be working on new features that make your PAYING subscribers happy No offense, but I've seen neither one of those things in more than 3 months, and it isn't very becoming of a company who has my money! Just saying. Take care.. Keep up the good work everyone! :)
GWTPqZp6b 50 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 So what’s not working, adding TV shows? Mine appear near instantly. Perhaps some more info on your config or logs would help us support you. PS Emby isn’t open source any longer
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) Check you have real time monitoring turned on in your TV library. If not possible, then maybe reduce the library scan schedule to pick them up faster. Alternatively, you can manually use the 'Scan Library Files' in the library drop down menu. You can also add post processing to the media grabbing application via the emby API to scan once the file is available. So you have a few options. Edited March 29, 2023 by rbjtech

Honestly I kinda felt the same way when I was with Plex. It was the part of my brain that liked seeing updates, moreso than Plex making any meaningful changes to warrant pushing out new versions so frequently. I can probably count more times those updates broke things or added something no one asked for, than those that actually improved my experience with the software... then I'd go on their forums because I was running into a new issue, and get mostly ignored. (They did actually answer me once, ONCE, over the course of years, but only because they legitimately pushed out a broken build that was wrecking installs... and even that was just a canned response.) I have my qualms with Emby's process, mostly that I'd love them to maintain a list of what is 100% on the "currently in development" list even if they don't have timelines... but Plex is far from the gold standard of service lol. The Emby team is very active here and while it's not the most transparent, you can typically glean from beta notes and conversations in the testing area what kinda stuff is being worked on, and that's been enough to hold me over. MBSki 1114 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 @ZeeNetTVI agree with @Dreakon13. I'm a former Plex user, but I still get there update emails. There are frequent updates, but there's nothing useful getting updates. The only interesting thing I've seen is credit skip. The difference with Emby is while they don't implement everything I ask for, they are 1,000 times better than Plex at listening to the entire Emby community and usually implementing the most sought after features. The most important recent update to me is support for Apple picture files. As far as I know, Plex still doesn't have that.
mike3821 67 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Let's just point out how Plex is moving more and more to another free streaming service with a shit load of ads and integration with paid services. Much like Google TV. 1.) If you want to use Live TV their free TV service is automatically turned on. 2.) Free Movies & TV Shows are automatically turned on. Confuses end users when sharing your server out 3.) Searching content is now integrated with all these paid services. 4.) IPTV is flaky at most using such things as XTEVE. Not very useful The only thing I see at the moment that would be nice. Is a Watch List/Watch Later section added to Emby. As of right now I have to use playlists to accomplish this, but it really isn't the same thing.

Like you said, these are workarounds... but if I'm flipping through my stuff and find some movies or something I'd like to save somewhere for easy access later, I just Favorite them. Then there's the Favorite tab on the home page in most apps, and I Unfavorite when I'm done. It's basically a watch list in every sense but the name. Edited March 29, 2023 by Dreakon13

I'm going to do this. Great advice. 1
ZeeNetTV 4 Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 I actually figured out exactly why particular TV shows weren't updating or showing . Every one that wasn't, I had locked and completely forgot about it! So, problem there solved, however...the update thing still remains. One other thing I'd like to see is t be able to edit the name of my "Collections". I used to be able to, now I can't. I created an icon (amongst many) to go along with it, but it doesn't match up. I have two actually. Thanks to my last name being, "Zook", I call that library "Zookollections". I used to be able to edit the metadata title to match, but now it won't let me. It's too bad...kinda spent a moment of time on these to make it look more "me"...lol

In particular the MST3K and Price Is Right channel! Even though they also feature those on PlutoTV, there are WAY fewer ads! Even though I have MST3K in my personal library w/out ads, and some Price Is Right as well, I still like going there and leaving it to the random wind sometimes lol...but back to other points you make...I would LOVE to see them do a "Watch List/Later" function, and that's what I mean. Things that seem to me to be no-brainer features to me too. I myself have created playlists, complete with my own personalized icons, for TV shows and movies when I drop new episodes or movies into their respective categories. When I have new Toons to watch, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park, etc, I drop them in my "Toon2TuneN2" playlist, and so on, so forth... Edited April 4, 2023 by ZeeNetTV
