2nd server emby theatre

So after adding the details of both servers one at a time in Em theatre I was successfully able to connect to each server individually. I cannot have both servers show at the same time in the "change server" menu. I have to add new server every time and  re-enter host and port and then sign in with chip

If I am adding two different host addresses with the same port and signing into them with the same account chip, is that the way it should work bcoz it isnt

Any user - both your admins and your friends - can connect to a chosen server either directly or using Emby Connect.  The Connect setting is made in the user setup on each server.  You can connect the same Connect user with user accounts on both servers, and they will then be given the choice of server when they log in.

Beyond that I really have no idea what specific scenario you are trying to achieve here.

Paul

I cannot for the life of me add a second server. Why is emby so difficult to get along with. It really is over complex to just setup sometimes. Drives me nuts.

So on my old server for some reason all the users which include me are all cloud. Why is my user not the host, is that why I cannot add another server ?

I enter the address of the new server and get

Connection Failure
We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again.

I need to set this account to host  im typing from as host, and add my new server to emby theatre, then add my friends as server users, I believe through  emby connect right?

You seem to be going at it from the wrong end.

To have one Emby Connect account see both servers, go to the corresponding user on each of those two servers, and put the Emby Connect account email into the appropriate field.  The Emby Connect account will then know both of the servers.

So the only way I can access each server is by browser atm. When I go into the users it shows all the same users so both are setup right. chip is my Em connect and primechip is my main.

but in Em theatre it only shows server  .156: and not  .137:, I cannot access both servers from Em theatreScreenshot(141).thumb.png.f34a0c4a7ca0fadd21e31ed3a046901b.png

Why can I not understand this

@chipk- Did you perhaps create the second server by copying everything from the first one?

The only reason I could imagine why you are not able to add both servers would be that both servers have the same serverId.

You can check the server ids via an URL like this: http://localhost:8096/emby/system/info/public (of course you need to replace host and port).
This will return a json which shows the server id.
Please check whether you get back different serverId values from your servers.

You've shown us that the same users exist on the two servers; but this is beside the point, as those are users local to the server.  Can you confirm that for each Connect user you have put their Emby Connect email address into their user profiles on both servers - this is the step that makes the Connect account see both servers (the names of the local accounts on each server don't even need to be the same, though obviously it's less confusing if they are!).

@softworkz yes it was a straight copy of files and settings but they are two separate servers with one or two differences in the number of shows available atm on either one

Yes the ID is exactly the same, only the emby ver is different  between them.

So that is it then, that is why I only see one server listed on Emby theatre, but if the server IDs are the same, why do I have to add different remote credentials to access each server individually

It makes me + add server, add other host and port, sign in with chip

@pwhodgesyes all connect accounts have their email addresses added. Only primechip doesnt. Would theat mean primechip is my local account or is it also a connect account that isnt displaying like the others bcoz it doesnt have email address added to it ?

You just need to make sure that you have different server IDs, that's all.

But I'm not sure about the impact of changing the id of a server. Let's loop in @Lukeand see what he will recommend to do.

A local account is defined on a server; a Connect account is created at Emby and can be linked to chosen local accounts.  So if primechip is an account on a server it is a local account.  Accounts linked to a Connect account don't become "Connect accounts" - they remain local accounts linked to a Connect account.

The two servers are reporting the same unique identifier, so that's the reason for this issue. I would go to one of them, locate the server data folder:

Emby Server Data Folder

Then from there delete the /data/device.txt file and restart the server. If you do use Emby Connect then you'll need to relink all users on that server after doing this.

I followed your instructions and deleted the device.txt file

The IDs had changed and the server which had the .txt file deleted was asking me to sign up to Emby Prem so it worked kinda, but

all my users were still linked and I was not able to add both servers in Emby theatre like before, I could only have either the older server show or "add server" and sign in with newer server host and port  creds and sign in with chip

So the local account would be setup in Putty right, I must have setup primechip as local in putty, otherwise it wouldnt be able to show as just a name without a cloud icon ?

I would first unlink all users on the server where you changed the serverid.

Then, in ET, delete the saved server first. Then add one server and connect (with a local account). Then change server and add the other server and again connect with a local account.
Only when you have that working, I would start trying to log in with Emby Connect accounts.

In Putty?? You mean SSH? No!

You never use any Linux accounts for logging into Emby Server.

To set up (local) Emby accounts, connect to your Emby Server via a browser.

I would probably suggest redoing all of the emby connect links on both servers after doing this. Doesn't matter if they're still showing as linked or not. I would remove the emby connect info, save, add it back.

Ok sorry, I was getting mixed up with other stuff I had to do in the past

Ok so it finally now shows 2 servers in ET, only this time it wont allow me to play anything as it is asking for Prem, I copy the code and save but it doesnt work.

So from a new install of ET it asks to add account, I add manual server and not connect with the pin, that means that the account it I add will be local main admin right ?

Did you do this on both servers?

For the server that you changed the server id on, you will probably need to redo that, meaning, blank it out, save, then add it back. Once you done that, then restart Emby Theater and I suspect you'll be good to go.

Ok thanks

I sent two account deletion requests, how long will it take as I want to sign up again with one main account only. Unless I can change my username on one account then I will keep it active. I really wanna get it done this evening please so I can sort all this out. Thanks

The same user name this is being used here will be the same username that needs to be entered in ET with the same email address that this account is registered with right ?

Your accounts are fine. It's really not necessary to delete them and create new ones, unless for some reason you really want to.

If you want an easier approach then I would just suggest doing the relinking that I mentioned.

Probably? But since you have at least three accounts it really depends on two things:

  • Which ones you linked to local users on your servers
  • Which one you want to use

Please note, the username on your server is different than the user name on the forum here. You manage and control the users on your server. When you create an Emby Connect account, you are just linking that to the user you created on your server.

Does that help?

I am trying to login with a non emby connect account but it says the password is incorrect. When I try to reset it says "Please try again within your home network to initiate the password reset process"

I cant seem to log in and I cannot find another way of resetting my password. I want to use my main non emby connect as the main user on ET and add all my friends as emby connect accounts
