So,

I have a problem with multi-part movie(s).

It's two movies:
Superman (1948) - imdb link
Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) - imdb link

The movies are theatrical serials split in many parts, like this:

superman_1948_pt01_theatrical_serial_superman_comes_to_earth.avi
superman_1948_pt02_theatrical_serial_dept0hs_of_earth.avi
superman_1948_pt03_theatrical_serial_the_reducer_ray.avi
superman_1948_pt04_theatrical_serial_man_of_steel.avi
superman_1948_pt05_theatrical_serial_a_job_for_superman.avi
superman_1948_pt06_theatrical_serial_superman_in_danger.avi
superman_1948_pt07_theatrical_serial_into_the_electric_furnace.avi
superman_1948_pt08_theatrical_serial_superman_to_the_rescue.avi
superman_1948_pt09_theatrical_serial_irresistible_force.avi
superman_1948_pt10_theatrical_serial_between_two_fires.avi
superman_1948_pt11_theatrical_serial_superman_s_delima.avi
superman_1948_pt12_theatrical_serial_blast_in_the_depths.avi
superman_1948_pt13_theatrical_serial_hurled_to_destruction.avi
superman_1948_pt14_theatrical_serial_superman_at_bay.avi
superman_1948_pt15_theatrical_serial_the_payoff.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt01_serial_superman_flies_again.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt02_serial_atom_man_appears.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt03_serial_ablaze_in_the_sky.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt04_serial_superman_meets_atom_man.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt05_serial_atom_man_tricks_superman.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt06_serial_atom_man_s_challenge.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt07_serial_at_the_mercy_of_atom_man.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt08_serial_into_the_empt0y_doom.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt09_serial_superman_crashes_through.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt10_serial_atom_man_s_heat_ray.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt11_serial_luthors_strategy.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt12_serial_atom_man_strikes.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt13_serial_atom_man_s_flying_saucers.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt14_serial_rocket_of_vengeance.avi
atom_man_vs_superman_1950_pt15_serial_superman_saves_the_universe.avi

When I copy those to my emby server, they are all shown like separate movies, not additional parts of one movie.

Any help appreciated :)

I think you can just select them all and choose group versions.

True, but those are not different VERSIONS of one movie - they're PARTS of one movie.

I tried to group versions, but then it treats them exactly like different versions - it shows those versions in the dropdown menu. Also, it doesn't automatically play them one after another...

Guess it comes down to naming convention for file stacking and determining what's confusing parser.

Try renaming once or two of those with -ptXX at the end (move other parts out of the movie folder), i.e.

superman_1948_theatrical_serial_superman_comes_to_earth-pt01.avi

superman_1948_theatrical_serial_dept0hs_of_earth-pt02.avi

Rescan, see what gives?

If not, try dumping those suffixes (or part of it), i.e.

superman_1948-pt01.avi

superman_1948-pt02.avi

or

superman_1948_theatrical_serial-pt01.avi

superman_1948_theatrical_serial-pt02.avi

Scan again, any change?

Right, but as far as I know, whether it's a different version or a part it's handled the same. Did you see it handled differently before? I don't think I ever figured how to get the parts to order 1 after another. Only way I can do that is in a tv show and make them all separate episodes by changing the metadata manually.

Nope, they're not. If multi-versioned, they're treated exactly like that, different versions of the same item (no continuation/auto-play). If multi-part (file stacking) they are treated as multiple parts and are displayed as such in some client apps UI (and auto-played in sequence).

Wow, really? Is that just for movies? I've never seen that work in tv shows. What clients does it work on?

AFAIK yes, there's no full support for multi-part episodes (not multi-episode files).

Again, AFAIK it works in all of them - additional parts are just not displayed in them all (example Web app yes, AndroidTV app no; it does play them, though).

The only thing that worked was dumping everything except the main movie name, as follows:

superman_1948_pt01.avi

superman_1948_pt02.avi

etc.

Thanks for the suggestion ;)

Now it's shown as it should be  :)
