Certain HEVC files fail to play - AndroidTV - AQUOS-TVE21A

Some of my HEVC AAC 5.1 files will not play via the Android TV app, it simply shows a black screen. Looking at the server dashboard they appear to be playing the first 8 seconds direct but then drops back to the start - nothing actually shows on screen though.

Comparing the file details, they do not seem to be different to other shows that do work. Screenshot below of two shows that seem the same, but only the 'Poker Face' file plays as expected.

All files play fine via my android mobile Emby app, when an external media player is used with the AndroidTV app or if I cast it to Chromecast (as it then has to transcode).

However the problem files will not play via Chrome browser, mobile apk sideloaded on to the TV or the native AndroidTV player.

Ive submitted logs via the 'send logs' option within the app. They were submitted by user 'admin' @ approx 0700 UTC-5 (I think, 1200 GMT). Have also attached embeyserver.txt logs in case that is useful.

Hi.  Are you positive that item is encoded correctly?  That codec tag shows "hev1" while the player in the TV app appears to think it is hvc1.

To be honest, no im not 100% sure if it is encoded correctly. As far as I can tell it is 'hev1' though, so not sure why the TV app thinks otherwise.

Have now tested with Jellyfin and Plex, both of which will play as expected via their respective AndroidTV apps. To me it then feels like an Emby for AndroidTV based issue.

Is there a next best step to help troubleshoot you could suggest?

Thanks,

Jonathan

I have already tried that, does not work. Same files have the same issues.

I am still, to this day, having issues playing these files. My only solution has been to install VLC for android and use that as an external player. its a little clunky, missing the better integration features but at least I can get my media on screen now

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
