Buffering and freezing

re: Emby.server.638...200 .txt log

Try opening the log and look at just one file progress.  Search for 12.ts

It is referred to 70 times. Starting at: 18:21:16.668  to 18:23:04.253 --- Nearly 2 minutes!

===

Line 1303: Get request for a 12.ts file with Roku prefetch=off (Is that an optional switch?)

1304: error details - unable to find

1324: Response 404 on error

1325: server tries again for 12.td

1326: Another error - unable to find

1346: Response 404 again on same file

Then http delete and other traffic and 12.ts is listed many times again.

===

Is it Roku prefetch issue or perhaps a dll file corruption (often a cause for 404 errors)?  Is Roku continously requesting 12.ts and not waiting long enough to get it?  Is Roku directly connected via Ethernet or is it running on Wifi.  Can these errors be a Wifi issue?

Anyone know an answer?

The only Roku Prefetch I could find was here: https://developer.roku.com/docs/references/brightscript/interfaces/ifvideoplayer.md

Hope that helps.

Exactly, it keeps freezing, buffering and then it just drops back to the library screen after I guess it tried playing it to many times. I have no idea what a Roku prefetch is. Roku is connected to wifi, but I don't have any other issues with anything on wifi.

I am having this problem on windows with Chrome (one of my users uses it exclusively as he's disabled).  Thought I would test things since seeing this thread, and I can get anywhere from 5-30 seconds of playback and then it just locks.  The server continues to trancode the file, but nothing is sent to the client.  It happens only on files that are being transcoded.

Logs attatched.

Roku Wifi limits and supported media types: https://support.roku.com/article/208754908

Notice all the audio limitations.  Also they say:

Quote

"... automatically convert (transcode) the video to a format supported by the Roku device...."

Does that imply if you don't have your encoding set to change audio to an accepted format, that Roku will reject the media?  There is no date on this page, so some media support may have improved.

A simple test to pinpoint that it is a Roku / possible Wifi issue is to connect the TV to the router with an Ethernet cable and bypass Roku completely.  If the media works, then you have a Roku / possible Wifi issue.  If not, then it's probably the media.

My personal preference is to hardwire Ethernet to all TV's and Projectors in a Home setup and never use Wifi.  That choice helps a lot to create a dependable Home Theater install.

Bogart, You mentioned you don't have issues with Wifi.  That does not logically preclude that all media streaming to a Roku on a Wifi will work.  That is sort of like saying, "My microwave doesn't work, but the kitchen lights are fine."

Re: Roku rejecting Wifi issues.  It's sort of a known problem.   See: https://community.roku.com/t5/Wi-Fi-connectivity/Loss-of-wifi-connection-when-using-Roku-and-IOS-devices-simultaneously/m-p/782142

Hope that helps.

I do understand that. Ive tried 2 different Roku's to try to eliminate the issue being with Roku and I still have the same problem. Unfortunately the TV is a Vizio TV and Vizio limits the apps available on their TV's. Only way I could get Emby on that TV is with Roku. Unfortunately also I only have one ethernet wall jack in the entire house, so it's difficult to run ethernet everywhere even with Powerline adaptors so I run wifi. Ive also tried multiple different movies on Emby to see if it was just a video file issue and it still happened. Hopefully I don't have to wipe the server and delete it and start a whole new one from scratch.

This is probably not related but I just noticed this in your log:

How did you define your TV shows library?  That looks like you've pointed it to each individual show directory when it should just be pointed to "J:\TV Shows"

When I pointed it to one folder, it didn't show all the episodes so i had to point it to each individual folder

Okay, something is definitely wrong there that we need to investigate.  You should be pointed to the parent folder.

That's how it was originally

Setting up the library how you have is going to cause issues.  Can we please look at whatever problem you had doing it properly (pointing to the parent folder)?

That wont solve the issues of the buffering and freezing as the movies are pointing to a different folder.

If there's an issue related to overall resource consumption then it could have an impact. Can you try it and let us know if it helps? Thanks !

It's been said on this thread that the logs are riddled with errors. What errors can I try to resolve with settings changes? I already changed the tv shows library to point to one folder. Now we can fix the riddled errors from the log that this post was originally for.

Thanks.

Can I please get some possible fixes to the logs that were riddled with errors that was mentioned originally when this post was started? The only thing I was given was the HD not having enough space. This is why I started this thread, but I guess the original reason for this thread is irrelevant. Kind of pointless to have started this thread if it's not going to be answered. Thank you for ignoring my original problem.

Hi.  Troubleshooting is an iterative process.  We ask you to try some things and then re-try the test and look at it again.  You've changed how your library is setup so whatever was happening in the past may not be relevant anymore.  Can we please now see an example with the new setup so we can take the next step?
