Books - Author

I have created a library of books (.epub)  (Content type: books)

Using the API, I am able to add a tag for the "Authors Name".

But I would like to use people, because I could add a biography for the person.

I can't seem to add a person, using the API.

So my question is: Is it possible to add a person to an item whose type is book?
