Just a thought, it would be nice to have the info for the channel show at the top or bottom of the guide. Then if you are reviewing something in the current time and click that channel it just starts playing instead of having click, have the pop up or next page, then hit play again. If you wanted to record it it then just have that in the menu of the active playing channel. If you click an item in the future then display the option to record.

Hi, what info do you mean?

Have the guide information display at the top or bottom like the pic above.

When you are in the guide and click the guide entry this will either pop up or depending on app take you to another page. Then you have the options to play/record.

Don't our layouts already do that on devices that have a concept of focus?

As for your other request please lend your support here:

So if I'm reading that article correctly it would be three clicks in the browser. You click the channel it pops up you have to hit play then it loads the stream but doesn't auto play. I'm not using web interface but apps directly.

I'm looking to bypass that first popup if the channel is on the current time. So when you click on a channel instead of it popping up with the details and a watch/record option it just starts playing the channel. Then in the bottom play bar have an option for record if you wanted to record. Along with this as you are scrolling the guide have the info at the top/bottom.

If it is a future episode then you could prompt for record. I hope that makes a little more sense.

In an app (especially on a TV) it would just be two clicks of the ok button - which you could do quickly - as the play button will be focused in the dialog that comes up.  However, if your remote has a "Play" button, you can just hit that for direct playback.

That's what the request I linked to is asking for as well.  I actually floated it in a beta of Android TV and got a lot of complaints so I took it back out.  The major complaint was that you had to tune to the channel to start a recording.  And that, since, there was already the "play button" shortcut, it was not really necessary.

That makes sense for mobile apps. It would still be nice if I clicked the channel off to the left that it would just play.

Then if you selected on the timeline maybe just have a drop down with the info and play/record instead of another page.

I'm going to test when I get home with the nvidia shield and apple tv to test the play button. I was not aware that this would bypass the double click. I guess I was mostly thinking about those devices then the actual phone app for the guide layout and play options.

So I definitely jumped the gun on this post. This whole thing can just be deleted 🤦‍♂️

The apps on these devices work just the way I was asking and knowing the play button just plays it is perfect. Thank you for all your hard work on this project!
