xyzeratul 2 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 One of my emby server is running behind a sensitive network, all traffic to tvdb or moivedb have to use a http or sock5 proxy, so it is unable to scrap info from them. I couldn't find any info on how to setup a proxy on emby, any suggestions?
rbjtech 5284 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) The proxy settings themselves on the emby 'server' just need to point all external web traffic to the proxy - there is no specific proxy setting within the Application. (use the browser network config to do this). On the proxy itself, you need to whitelist the Provider websites and https://mb3admin.com https://github.com/mediabrowser from the Emby Server host - or whitelist from all sources to make it easier. A proxy doesn't work like that - the proxy controls what goes through it based on it's local config. Usually it's all 'internet/outbound' bound traffic - all local traffic will not go through the proxy. This is a question you need to ask your proxy provider - emby will have no say in how your network traffic is routed and they have no way to route individual requests - as they simply use URL's to do so (generic 'web' based API request). Can your emby host get to those sites as normal web requests - ie thetvdb.com and themoviedb.org ? the API sites will be different but try those first. Edited February 22, 2023 by rbjtech

OK got it, this have to be set in proxy rules I guess, I asked this because there is a similar software has the proxy setting just for meta info scrapping. Yea I tried get to the API sites in this network, fully blocked. anyway thanks for the help, it's a temporary setup, if the proxy still not working, I just go back to the manul way.
GlewShrake 1 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 (edited) What worked for me was using residential proxies. They’re more reliable for avoiding blocks and getting consistent access to services like TVDB and MovieDB, especially when you need that extra layer of anonymity. I just set up the proxy server in my network settings and pointed Emby’s internet traffic to route through that. It’s pretty straightforward once you get the right proxy configuration in place. Residential proxies were a game-changer for me, and now everything scrapes smoothly! Edited November 19, 2024 by GlewShrake
