All week long I've been looking for away to record my local channels.  Then I had some choice's to make between a HDHomeRun and TIVO, and then to use PLEX.  Tonight I just learned that PLEX does NOT use ASCT 3.0 audio.  In fact when it comes across it, it doesn't play.  So I hit the ground running again looking for away to record my local channels and learned about emby.  So now here I am.

SETUP:

#1  Samsung TV - which if I knew what I know now, it would of been a Sony with andriod.

#2  HDHomeRun Flex

I plan (once I receive the HDHomeRUn Flex (tomorrow)), I will hook it up the HDHomeRunFlex and see how it is over on the TV stright without running it through the servers.

Now I didn't see it, but does emby player have any live shows or movies like PLEX?

Does emby skip commericals?

More questions to come later.

Thanks

Welcome to the community Rookie...

No, emby does not contain any content at all, it is simply a way to organize, play, and share your own content so you will either have to add movies and shows by either recording them or ripping them from DVD or Blu-Ray discs you have access to.

I am not aware of emby providing commercial skipping on it's own but there is a plugin called ComSkipper that can do the job.  I cannot tell you anything more about this as I have never used it because I manually edit all TV shows before compressing and adding to my emby server.....I'm more particular about my edits than any software can provide.

Thank you Ronstang.  I just got off the phone with my local TV station (CBS), and they inform me that this area Augusta/Aiken area does NOT carry the 3.0 as of yet.  They don't expect it to be out for another 2-3 years.  So far that I now have time to do things right.  I like it when you sign into Plex you are presented with things they have already installed for you.  After reading everything like night (at 12:30), I learned that I could use a plug-in called IPTV.  I never knew what that is.  However, I just wanted an IPTV plug in, I installed it, and yet nothing happen.  Why?

The plugin can connect to IPTV.  You were told already that Emby doesn't provide any content; so you need to supply it with details of an IPTV account.  Click on the plugin in your installed plugins list, and then click Add:

I thank you for the info, but doesn't make any sense to me.  Is there a step by step process that I can follow?

First, do you already have a subscription to an IPTV supplier?

I guess this isn't FREE then?

Again, Emby doesn't provide any content of any form* - it provides software for you to organise, record and watch your own content, which may be ripped from DVD or Bluray, or whatever source you choose, or broadcast over the air (you need a tuner such as the HDHomeRun or a Hauppauge) or as Internet stream (you need an account with an IPTV provider) or recorded from any live source.

When you have what you want of those, Emby can offer them all up to you on more or less any connectable device in a reasonably uniform way.  And it does this without requiring you and your users to log in via a Plex server where they can monitor you...

* To be strictly correct, Emby has a channel of its own called The Emby Show - News from the Devs with (currently) four videos about interesting technical matters.
