Explicit opt-in version of Continue Watching / Watchlist

I would like to see a feature that is similar to the continue watching feature, except the user needs to explicitly add the show (or movie) to that list. I think this would be useful when you want to track progress in certain series, but you are also watching other things at random times in random order which you do not care about tracking. For example: I could be watching Mad Men, Lost, and Walking Dead, explicity tracking my progress. But some days I just want to put on Frasier or The Office, maybe I shuffle the episodes or just picked some that looked good. The point is I don't care about tracking them, I would like to leave them off my list. I know I can just "remove from continue watching" but after a while that becomes very tedious.

So, really, what you are asking for is the opposite, right?

The ability to mark a series as not being tracked by CW.

Sort of, but not exactly. I am specifically looking for an OPT-IN solution. The show only gets added to the list if the user explicitly chooses to add it. It is similar, but its approached from the opposite direction.

But all media/TV shows are tracked by default, how would system know not to include it beforehand if not specifically opted for it, as per above FR to not get tracked?

Doing that would require us to NOT follow TV shows by default.  I don't think that is going to happen because, for the vast majority of shows, the way we do this now would be preferred.  The exception is the case to not follow progress on a show so it would need to be an opt-out option.

I think you are over complicating my suggestion. I am not asking about a modification to any existing setup. I am not asking for Continue Watching or Next Up to change. I add a show to the list, and it shows me the latest episode in my progress (or current if I am mid-episode). Perhaps another way to think about it is a filter of sorts for Continue watching. Only display things on a whitelist. Ultimately this request is about the end user side, so they can have a section specifically dedicated to track what they actually want to follow not be cluttered by random watches.

So to recap: A whitelist that is set by the user and can be applied over a "continue watching section" that filters what is displayed. The actual 'tracking' on server side is not affected at all.

I'm really having trouble wrapping my head around what are you trying to achieve/explain to us. I get what you want but I am under the impression that you're constantly missing the initial condition: ALL shows are tracked by default. You cannnot opt-in for specific show to be tracked - as it is already tracked - via white-list or whatever other means, unless it was opted-out of tracking before that.

Edit: Ahhhhh, maybe I was looking at this all wrong: you want another version of CW row to be introduced? Completely new Home Screen section?

Yes, exactly. This is a new row, new feature. The original CW should keep functioning as is.

I agree with the premise that we need to be able to turn off tracking at the series level.

But why not just a button that says Do not track watched status on the front page for each series? It could live under the (...)

That would fall under the request I linked above, not this one.

The request you linked is not very clear. Is there another request like this that uses a little more of the english language to describe exactly what's being requested?

Way back when MBPlus was a thing, it did have the ability to mark a series as "non-sequential" which then made it not appear in the next up areas.  I think that would be a nice feature to have at the series level.

This would be extremely useful for talk and news shows where people most likely just want the latest episode.
