Blatherscribe 5 Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 I'm not sure how, why, or even when this is happening, but Emby seems to be replacing my chosen SRT subtitles on its own. The subtitles are often a problem, because the automatically chosen ones never seem to match the film or TV show. So I keep trying new ones until I find one that works. A few times I've used a site that changes the time offset so they're correctly synchronized. All will be well, then I'll come back and watch the film some time later, and the subtitles are all wrong. How do I stop this from happening? Is the automatic subtitle download supposed to wipe out existing subtitle files and replace them? Thanks.

It is not supposed to, if you have them properly named (i.e. having ISO language code). How do your library Subtitle download settings look like?
Blatherscribe 5 Posted February 14, 2023 Author Posted February 14, 2023 I haven't changed the names Emby assigns, and I haven't changed any of the subtitle download settings. The setting that prevents subtitle downloads for files more than 120 days old is still turned on, and these are all *much* older than 120 days.
GrimReaper 4742 Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 (edited) Are you positive it is Emby overwriting those sub files? Do you have any other program accessing those? Anyway, it'd be very hard to track those events unless you catch the exact moment when that's occurring. As a reference, you could manually run Rotate log file scheduled task, manually run Download missing subtitles scheduled task and post server log after task is completed, so we might get some idea about what's actually happening and it might show us if it is actually redownloading those subs. Blatherscribe 5 Posted February 14, 2023 Author Posted February 14, 2023 Sorry, I have no idea when it's happening. Nothing else accesses these files. I just wondered if it sounded like anything that should happen. I only know it has happened because subtitles have been good on one viewing, not good on another. I've turned off the automatic subtitle scan for now, and I don't buy new movies very often, so that should take care of it. Thanks for looking into it!
Q-Droid 989 Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 Do the new subtitle files have a creation time that would give you an idea of when they were downloaded?
Luke 42080 Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 Hi, Emby does not replace your subtitles, it only adds new ones. Can you please provide a specific example? Thanks.
