Is it safe to remove default plugins?

There are several plugins that are installed by default that I don't use.

For instance, the dlna plugin. Is it safe to remove plugins that are installed by default, if they are not being used?

I'm assuming yes, but I'd like confirmation before I do it.

Yes they are safe to remove plugins.  Removing plugins just removes that functionality from the server.
