CharleyVarrick 283 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 How can I make it impossible for any user (including me) to connect to Emby remotely ? I want access to content and settings from all our devices, but only from Ethernet / home wifi. My 2 users single home network is 4 Windows PC's, 2 phones, tablet and TV.
Neminem 1519 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 1 ) Disable the following under each user. 1.2)Allow remote connections to this Emby Server. If unchecked, all remote connections will be blocked. 1.3)Hide this user from login screens when connected remotely. Useful for private or hidden administrator accounts. The user will need to sign in manually by entering their username and password. 2) Disable the following under network. 2.1) Allow remote connections to this Emby Server. If unchecked, all remote connections will be blocked. 2.2) Enable automatic port mapping. Attempt to automatically map the public port to the local port via UPnP. This may not work with some router models. 3) Disable port forwarding in you Router. And turn off UPnP in your router for added securety. That should be it. 2
pwhodges 2012 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Domestic routers will block external access by default. Access to your internal network requires port forwarding to be set up. Unfortunately (IMO), Emby has the option to open ports automatically using uPNP (the "Port Mapper" plugin). This does enable them to provide many users with simplified remote access using Emby Connect, though. But uPNP is a serious security risk. Anyway, disable port mapping in the Network settings, or uninstall the Port Mapper plugin, and you should be good to (not!) go - I would also check whether the router has retained any port forwarding settings, though. CharleyVarrick 283 Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 I have: 1 - unchecked Allow remote connections to this Emby Server 2 - Uninstalled the Port Mapper plugin (and restarted) But I can't seem to find Port mapping under Network
pwhodges 2012 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 You've uninstalled the Port Mapper plugin, so that option no longer appears. Paul

Paul I swear I didn't see the Network port mapping option even before I uninstalled the plugin. Can you give me a screen shot how this option looks like ?

Agree, but if you don't want to touch any of your router config, etc. and just "temporarily" disable remote connections from an Emby perspective - shouldn't this single option be all that's required? [Network] tab Shouldn't need to touch any User config or anything else, no? 3
