latest version(1.5.1), cannot display Chinese characters (display "□")

Problem Description:

  • All Chinese characters in .ass subtitle files are displayed as "□", while Chinese characters in .srt files are displayed normally.
  • These subtitle files showed up fine in versions before 1.4.8 (or 1.4.6?, not sure), after that the tizen emby version had issues with the ass subtitles not showing up, and I never used ass again.
  • The same ass file is displayed properly in the emby client for windows, ios and android.

Samsung model number: QA65QX2AAJXXZ & QA65Q6ARAJXXZ (two TVs, same issue)

Samsung firmware version: T-NKM2UABC-2111.1 & T-MSMUABC-1393.1

Samsung Emby client version:  1.5.1

Emby server version: 4.7.11.0

Attach the server and any transcode logs during the time of playback:

emby server logs.txt

Post a screenshot of the media info from the bottom of the web client:

I think this issue should already be resolved for the next USB release.  Can you please test it when it is available?  Thanks

Hi. After I upgrade to 1.5.2, I found the issue still remains.

Can you try with the hosted web app, http://app.emby.media

How does it compare there?

From my windows10 pc, "http://app.emby.media" works very well.

But I cannot find any browser from my Samsung TV. So I cannot verify it by TV.

I have the same problem on this Samsung TV Q90R75,
This problem only occurs on .ass subtitles, and the .srt subtitles can be displayed normally, because most of them are .ass, and this problem causes a lot of trouble.

Ok please try the next update to the app and let us know how it compares. Thanks .

Can you please confirm with a test (check Stats for Nerds), is the playback DirectPlay, DirectStream or Transcode when the Chinese does not appear correctly?

I don't understand what you means. Even after I install "Emby for Samsung 1.5.7" The problem still remains  !!

Cannot find those log file. I can only find embyserver.txt. Do I need to enable Debug Log Function in-order to see that !?

That's correct. ".srt" works well.
