IkeTaylor11 61 Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 How can I get my Music library to actually update to match the metadata in Emby? I have attached an example. The artist Snoop Dogg has the correct metadata when I browse the Metadata Manager. In the Music library the album is split into 2 different artists and 2 different albums. All files are in the same folder and have been tagged appropriately using Musicbrainz. I have tried "Refresh Metadata" on the library, with and without replacing images. I have done a full library scan as well. All metadata in Metadata Manager is correct, but the library isn't changing to match the metadata.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 That suggest either the items have different MBZids or Emby got two different id while querying embedded tags and fetching. Only way to correct music is via embedded tags. If you do not have embedded MBZ tags you may have to add them. But technically it is Snoop Doggy Dogg release for this album and all linked to Snoop Dogg. Don't know your exact version as there are 21 versions of the album. Release “Doggystyle” by Snoop Doggy Dogg - MusicBrainz
Luke 42078 Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 What I would suggest is to update the embedded artist information within your tracks so that they're all consistent. Then run a normal library scan and the server should pick up the changes.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 @LukeDon't alias like this create issues? Or just require same linked artistid?

If the tracks are consistently tagged with the same musicbrainz artist ids, then they'll be merged under the same artist, even with different names. But you'll only see one of the names in Emby. So yes, aliases can cause duplication if tracks are not tagged with musicbrainz artist ids. 1
IkeTaylor11 61 Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 I am using the MusicBrainz Picard app to edit the tags on all my tracks. I feel like Emby or Lidarr might be overwriting what is being written by Picard. Are there settings in the music library I should disable to metadata doesn't get changed without my knowledge?

Emby only reads tags and potentially if tags are missing a look happens and may get info wrong. If you are tagging with Picard I don't see how anything can be wrong unless you have multiple tag versions and Emby is reading on instead of the other. As Emby use ffprobe to read embedded tags it may show something different then any/many tagging software.

Emby does not write tags to your audio files, just FYI.

I think i have it disabled in there now too. Good to know that Emby doesn't write anything. I did run "Refresh Metadata" on the entire library again, it ran for about 1 hour to finish up. It does appear that conflicts are going away now. I just need to finish up the rest of my files by running them through Picard. Slow process.

Don't know if it uses existing tags or looks up its own. And do not know if they utilzed the exact same tags as every program is different. Emby uses ffprobe to read the tags and if multiple versions exist there can be conflicts or order of precedence. And depending on if Emby has already imported media when tags change will/could require media Refresh. 1
Luke 42078 Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Were you able to get to the bottom of this?
