Hide Movies and TV Shows from User Interface

I have several TV shows and movies that I no longer want to see in WMC.  I'd like to simply be able to hide them from the user interface but I don't see that option.  I don't want to physically move them to another folder on my HTPC, I don't want to lose their metadata, I don't want to delete them, I just want to hide them from the user interface.  Is this possible?

Here are a couple of scenarios in which this is helpful:

  • We've watched a TV series but are not ready to delete it.  We may want to watch it again someday but right now it's just one more entry that we have to browse past to get to what we want to see.
  • We purchased movies or shows that we thought the kids would like to see but they aren't watching them.  As soon as we delete them the kids will want to watch them so I'd prefer to hide them for a period of time and then delete them.
  • We had a bunch of boys over to the house for a sleepover.  To save my 9 year old the embarrassment of having his sister's princess movies show up in the list of movies I wanted to temporarily hide anything that would get him teased.
  • We have several TV series that we bought to watch in the summer and didn't.  We will probably start them next summer but in the meantime I have to scroll past them to find the shows that I want to watch now.  Being temporarily able to hide these keeps the interface clean and the shows ready for us next year.

There is a workaround I can use for the stuff for the kids but for me and my wife I can't figure it out.  Is there a way?  Can there be?

Thanks,

MJ

For your "Princess" shows example - set up a location for those movies and only allow access to that location for her user profile.  That's what I do to keep my daughter's movies out of my and my son's lists.

For the others you want to temporarily hide you can create separate media folders pointing to separate physical locations and simply move those directories (a simple drag and drop that will be very quick if on the same file system) into the proper locations when you want them sequestered.

Or, you could use a custom rating on those items of the highest available and set the max rating on your profile to the one just below max and that will effectively hide them.

ebr. thanks again for the fast reply and I appreciate the suggestions though I was hoping there was a "hide" feature built in.  I already considered what you suggested and though they're not difficult suggestions to implement (the file systems suggestions that is)  I still want something easier.  My day job is in IT so when I get home I need everything streamlined and simple so I don't have to be a SysAdmin at home too :).  More and more MB3 is giving me that!

For now I'm using custom ratings to hide shows from the user interface.  We have a "Kids" profile and a "Mom & Dad" profile which I'm happy with so I'll just exclude a rating from the Mom & Dad profile so I can do what I need to do there.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
