Legal IPTV service that works with Emby LiveTV

Has anyone had any luck getting a legal IPTV service working in Emby in the UK?

I particularly want to get Film4 HD working.I tried a couple of services but none of them seem to work in one way or another. One allowed me to play films but the channel guide would not display any information, another, MaxCo, looked promising but I was getting the error "No compatible streams are currently available" The usual error I get when the WinSolo tuner is tied up recording.

Has anyone out there successfuly got an IPTV service with Film4 HD, TCM HD and Sky Cinema HD channels? Also want to know whether it is then actually possible to record from these channels?

I am running the very latest version of Emby and I do have a Premiere subscription.

Hi, I'm not aware of any way that you can do this legally

Hi, @Spaceboy, I puzzled then as to what is the purpose of the IPTV Tuner in LiveTV?

I am sure that some of the Emby guides talk about subscriptions to IPTV providers and I have seen some members of this forum talk about using IPTV subscription services inside Emby.

If not for IPTV providers then what can it be used for?

By the way, when I said legally, I meant using a subscription IPTV provider that has all the proper licences for the TV content they offer. I understand there is a fair share of illegal operators who lack the appropriate licences.

IPTV is basically don't ask, don't tell.  Emby can profit from the fact that some services are free, so providing access itself is not a crime, just the ones people typically want are not.

these are facts:

  • there is support for m3u as a channel source. there is completely legitimate use for that. for instance i add an m3u to emby from my local tv server which has freesat channels.
  • the iptv plugin is for adding individual "channels" from a url. tbh i don't really see the use for this.
  • iptv m3us can also be purchased.
  • there is no legal provider of streaming UK tv channels over the internet to software such as emby.

interpret these facts together as you wish.

You can find m3u lists for free tv services like samsung's TV plus, and the free roku channels.  These would normally be free for specific devices (Samsung TVs, Rokus) so I don't know that it would count as Piracy.  I dont think your circumventing any security features to get them either.  I'm sure there are quite a few others like it.

I used this to get my security camera feeds into Emby. I just pointed it to their RTSP streams.

Audio and video playlist m3u support has been around for a long, long time, but that is really not what most are talking about with IPTV now.

@Spaceboycould I ask you over DM a couple of IPTV questions?  Specifically looking for help with a good provider, and EPG data (specifically for NFL Sunday Ticket).

You also get an m3u that has all your recordings so you can use the recording m3u as a .strm file and it will load all your recordings into emby under movies & tv series.
