strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 (edited) Hi I am new here! I was following this guide: and I can't really figure anything out past this. I was able to connect originally via my IP and port and others could remote in and connect via my IP as well. Now that I have setup my domain name and everything that I think is correct - when trying to login with my domain:port - it doesn't work. I have port forwarded 80, 443, 8096, and 8920. I have setup my domain with Google Domains: And then my network settings: When I ping my DNS I get my actual IP. Which as far as I know is how it should be. At this point I don't know what else I have to do or what I have done wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I am also not super savvy about these things. So user-friendly language is appreciated Edited January 22, 2023 by strander14 Adding images; adding information

GrimReaper 4740 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Which port(s) do you want to connect to remotely? You need to forward ports in your router either public 80->8096 local or public 8096->8096 local for unencrypted connection and 443->8920 local or public 8920->8920 local, depending on the answer to the first question and whether you have SSL setup or not.
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 I only want SSL connections coming in - as far as I know I have SSL setup. My goal is to connect to (remote) it as https://mydomain.com:8920. I am not sure how to forward port to port on my router - or maybe I don't understand how it works.

That depends on the maker and model of your router. You need to admin into your router and find Port Forwarding Section, here are some typical locations: Quote Find the Port Forwarding section. Although each router's page will be slightly different, common menu labels for the section of settings that contains Port Forwarding are "Port Forwarding", "Applications", "Gaming", "Virtual Servers", "Firewall", and "Protected Setup" The following are where you can find the port forwarding settings for different router brands: Linksys — Click the Applications & Games (or Apps & Games) tab, and then click Single Port Forwarding to open a single port or Port Range Forwarding to open a range of multiple ports. . Netgear — Click Advanced Setup and then click Port Forwarding/Port Triggering or Ports - Custom Services. Belkin — Click Virtual Servers below the "Firewall" header in the menu to the left. Asus— Click WAN in the menu to the left and then click Virtual Server/Port Forwarding. Edited January 22, 2023 by GrimReaper 1
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 Forgive me for being ignorant on this: Is this port forwarding a range, port triggering, or just regular port forwarding. I am using Xfinity xFi Gateway as my router - it is the one that the ISP gave me. I attached an image of what my port forwarding looks at on my router. I also attached an image of what port triggering looks like. Is this just not in the capabilities of my router?

strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 Okay - so my router doesn't have internal and external port options like shown on this example image. So I think I just need to get a new router/modem - and maybe that will fix my problem? I tried port range and port triggering just for the fun of it and they didn't work.
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 Would my port be show as open on open port check if it was properly port forwarded?

Strange that it doesn't. What happens when you select your server, enter 8920 under Port and press Next at the bottom here?
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 So I am just running this off of my desktop - so it looks like this when I do that.
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 In addition to that - my emby server is showing the http as what it is running on?

Not quite sure what is that, a client app? As it says Desktop up top and local address is 10.0.0.66, your router will typically be 10.0.0.1 if on the same subdomain? Are you sure you're in router admin? This picture: looks like where you should be.

GrimReaper 4740 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Lets do one test: Port forward 8096 in that app, same as you forwarded 8920.
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 So this is where my internet company is weird - Xfinity (Comcast) with the xFi gateway gets weird. In order to manage port forwarding you have to use their mobile app... But for everything else you use the 10.0.0.1 admin panel. Port 8096 shows as open on open port check when port-forwarded.
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 But when trying to connect through my domain when secure connection is disabled - it still doesn't allow me. The connection has timed out The server at http://-----------.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web. This did originally work when I was trying to connect remotely through my 76.xx.xxx.xx:8096 - but when I changed to domain it did not.

Anyway, let's assume 8920 is also open if 8096 is forwarded and showing open - on to Emby part: You want to enter 8920 here: Also, what is your setting for Secure connection mode?

strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 Updated those. Still cannot connect through domain - gives same error. Secure connection mode picture attached.

Wait with domain for now. First try connecting to http://YOURIP:8096 followed by https://YOURIP:8920 (you'll get notice that connection is not secure, disregard that for now, though it'll tell you if your certificate is valid and domain it's registered to). strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 (edited) If I do those currently - neither of them show up - they give me the same error (connection timing out). I am assuming this is because I have the external domain attached. If I take the website off (network settings) - I can connect to the server from the browser remotely to the 8096 port with my IP. When I try the 8920 port with my IP it times out. I also cannot connect to the server through my actual IP on my desktop where I am hosting the server - I connected through the browser on my phone. I can only connect through browser on my desktop by local IP. It may also be worth mentioning I am on Windows OS. Edited January 22, 2023 by strander14 Additional information
GrimReaper 4740 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Maybe @cayars can remote in and assist with your setup.
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 As mentioned before, step by step. Disable "Automatic Port Mapping". Then restart your Emby server and attach the newest server log.
strander14 3 Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 Attached is my server log file after disabling automatic port mapping. embyserver.txt
