Lack of Functionality

Emby "database" has been so long in the game that I can't believe the lack of functionality it has. Plugins suck. Themes suck. I want to be able to share my media via links and not only to local users but to social media. You don't even have a lyric generator. How about gapless music?? (steam entire contents and not wait for next track.)  Your album art retriever is useless. Seriously, I have to pay premiere for this? Come on guys...step up your game. There are so many functions I can think of. Subsonic ( check it out and learn from it even though it's old.) and Kodi combined are much better than this. Not trying to offend you but just saying...

😉

If you want a direct link to your media, you could copy the url from the web browser,  more specifically the url that the video element is playing from the dev console.

There is also an entire stream API you could check out by clicking the API link at the bottom of the dashboard.

You may need to create an API key, and maybe monitor some of the stream options that are contained in the url, to make sure that the item that is being played is able to be played the client.

In any case there are plenty of ways to play your media on social media... But I would wonder why? Emby has many clients that allow your users aceess to your media in a secure way. Placing urls on social media kind of seems like perhaps it would allow access to your server in a way that may disrupt your system.

You might want to look at Jellyfin.  I have no idea if they have any of the things you want or not.  But being open source you and/or others of like mind would have the ability to create those features. Emby is closed source so the team (I imagine) has a list of new features that they rank according to parameters such as of most use to the most users.  While at the same time maintaining the code.  That's why you see so much of "it's on our list" for sometimes over a year. That's not likely to change.

That's where my " most use to the most users" comment comes in.  Take me for example, I use Emby to watch recorded movies and TV shows, and remote family to do the same and watch live TV.  I could not possibly care less about things like themes or lyric generators.  I would like to see technical additions like ATSC3 audio. To each his own, but Emby is fine for me.

True, functionality is more important than eye candy, but at least with eye candy I can change it a bit myself with a bit of css (or more likely ask others for help with css...), and I don't get much excitement, so...

So in general what you guys are saying is that Emby database sucks? I get so frustrated in using it, not in a way that it's less perfect than other solutions. Please guys, give more alternatives. Thought I would get everything even subscribing to a Premium account but it really needs lots of more work. There is one thing I must say that is really impressive though... I can stream from a home made server without any delays. Not sure if this is an up-point on the Emby developer side or just a general ISP privilege but the bandwidth management system is perfect. (almost like how Netflix) As for the other functionality, I am not impressed. I understand that anti-piracy is no. 1 on your list and that you only supply a database but there are ways to work around this. Look at KODI as an example.

Yes I agree...washed out exceptionally.

It's actually amazing how Emby Administrators treat these requests with silence.

Hi.  What are you calling a "database"?

We have to concentrate on the features that the largest audience utilizes first - then we get to the lesser used items as they make sense.  The vast majority of our users are mainly video consumers so that is where the bulk of our efforts are going at the moment.

Thanks.

Me being just an ordinary user, I'm sure you have valid points, but (yes I know, but...) to have any chance of things you don't like being improved, you need to give specific examples of errors and / or specific requests for features. True, at least for feature requests, they need to be pretty popular to get any traction, and it might end up at the bottom of a long list, but we've all got our favourites to plug in that list as well.

Emby also does very well considering the number of devs it has vs some competition that its trying to match.

If a music-specific service provides you with what you're looking for, what's the purpose of coming here just to say "Emby sucks blah blah."

If you want Subsonic features, pay for Subsonic.... The stuff you're asking for is not widely used, and saying that the lack of those (fairly minor features) make the whole suite "sucky" is nothing more than flaming for flaming sake.

Just a side note for @arrbee99: the reason your request didn't get any traction is because you spelled "color" wrong - people don't know what you are talking about.  😜

"Emby sucks because it doesn't do what xyz program does"

Yeah, great way to get traction on your "criticism".  There is a features request thread.  If you want to request features, you should be posting there instead.  You just sound like a spoiled kid, nothing more.

Oh, surely not. You mean like some people seem to spell Autumn as F-a-l-l ?
