Plex Meta Manager (Emby Support)

That's looking awesome! Looking forward to having a go on my Emby server when it's all ready to share! I've done our Plex server with Kometa and it looks great, but I still prefer Emby over Plex in general and would love to get it looking like that.

@ nobody01 - a quick though, but is it worth changing the post title to Kometa instead of Plex Meta Manager now they're rebranded so to speak (if it lets you change it?) :)

Happy you like it, but I guess that PMM/Kometa lost a lot of interest to the Trakt & MDB List Maker, as both scripts do a great job on their own, so I highly doubt that anyone else will join.

As I'm unfamiliar with Pycharm and Git updates, and I don't want to take full care of the Emby integration, I decided to upload my current version (including my config as example).

https://we.tl/t-dpx1STyJ9h <- valid for 7 days, contains Kometa for Emby + my basic overlay plugin. Within the Kometa config, select png as file format for the overlays, it will export transparent pngs. For the server plugin, chose the folder with the exported overlay pngs. Will only refresh overlays after you click save.

Needs a dummy Plex server configured.

I think I'll post the link at the Kometa feature request post, maybe my version can help speed up a proper integration.

Update: I’ve rebased my WIP on Kometa 2.2, here‘s the link to my GitHub repo:

https://github.com/tommargar/Kometa/tree/feature_emby_overlays

I’ll add a download for the Emby overlay plugin later.
It’s working as expected, only episode and season overlays are missing. You’ll currently need a Plex install with one library as I haven’t removed all traces/made it fully standalone.
If you already have a working Kometa installation for Plex, you can just re-use the config and add your Emby libraries. I’ll also add my current config as reference.

EDIT: Added files. Put the dll file in <your plugins folder for the overlays, point to your Kometa export folder and hit 'save'. The plugin will only look for update overlays when save is clicked.
More information/screenshots can be found in my previous posts

Awesome man you're doing great! I still have my janky dual Plex + Emby config based around Kometa + Posterizarr + Emby-MDBList-Collection-Creator + chatgpt bash script I made that works perfectly for my needs so I'm not tearing down yet but watching your progress very closely for the day I can put it to pasture 🤣

Any updates to this how to use this? I have a kometa instance running for plex. Do I need a second?

You'll need my version of Kometa. You can copy your existing Plex configuration to the config folder. Do not overwrite your existing Plex version.

Now you'll have to adapt your config, see my uploaded config with the new fields and amends. Current Kometa version still relies on an existing Plex server.

Let me know if you need more information.

Ah, thanks for your Help!

That means I create a new instance of kometa with your files and I can run this instance at schedule like my origin kometa every day and I'm fine?

I'll try that next week and report Back.

Yes, exactly. Just need to configure the Emby server settings and library.

You'll also need to install my plugin if you want to use the native Emby overlays.

If I just want the exact plex posters (with kometa overlays) I don't need your plugin?

And the collections are also available after "sync" and overwritten each run? Cause they change every day...

I'm still interested in setting my Emby up with Kometa as well.

I currently have Plex and Emby on the same PC, with Kometa set up and working well on Plex.

I don't have the same libraries on both though, as Plex is better at allowing duplicate folders in libraries (so, for example, I can have one library for everything that I want my family to access ( ie All Movies, All TV Shows), but then duplicate them into separate libraries for my use (New movies, Movie Archive, My TV Shows, etc), so I keep all watched and unwatched separate).

Would I need to have the libraries set up exactly the same in Emby as in Plex to use your Kometa? Or can I use it with Emby having different libraries?

Also, I have my Kometa running on Docker, but neither Plex nor Emby run on Docker, both are local installs.

Thanks!

1. Yes and no 😉 There are some changes I made as Plex and Emby are different. If you set the output to png, a transparent image with overlays @1000x1500px for the posters (thumb not tested). My plugin will then apply the overlay on the poster for the clients, so that you can swap the poster in Emby without losing the overlay. Otherwise, Kometa will overwrite your local poster file.

2.  Yes, collections are synced each time they are scheduled to run.

My version of Kometa uses the Emby ItemId instead of the Plex GUID; if you point multiple libraries to the same folder, the media will be imported across multiple libraries with only a single Id instead of multiple,, so c:/mymovies/mymovie01/movie.mkv will always have one Id if added to multiple libraries. That affects e.g. the mass genre update or overlays as those work per library and then per id, meaning one library seeing overwriting three other one. In those cases I'd use the All libraries for metadata updates, main collections and overlays, and the child collections with duplicates for collections only.

You can setup your libraries as you like, Plex is currently only needed to get the basic Plex object and won't be used during script execution.

I haven't changed the Docker code, so it's supposed to work as described in the Kometa Howtos. For my setup, I run a Docker container with autostart.
Kometa will of course need access to your server by http and you'll need a shared folder fort there overlay files.

You can add a small test library and test it on 10-20 films/shows first before working on the big library.

Hi Mate is this still working and is plex still a requirement?

I'm hoping to have a go at this for my Emby in the next few weeks. I currently have Plex and Emby running on my desktop, and Kometa running for Plex via a Docker. What would be the best way to add Kometa to Emby? Should I run it in another Docker?

Is there a step-by-step guide to getting it working with Emby do you know? Thanks

Basically, I kept all the Docker stuff untouched. You should be able to create a Docker with the docker file provided. I'll check later and update if necessary.

For now, you still cannot use my version with Plex, so an instance of its own is needed.

You can basically copy your Plex config and add your Plex server. You'll still need my plugin for the overlays, as those are managed in Emby.
