Movie divided in two files

Before I begin, I want to explain that I tried almost every mode explained here, including part1/part2, -cd1 and -cd2, but I was unable to achieve success. I want my film to appear in an Emby page with multiple choice for disc 1 and disc 2. It's fundamental to keep using Emby, thanks.

How exactly are they named and organized?

But Emby will stack them and display as additional parts in most but not all clients.

Hi there, I obtained the same page you have shown! The fact is that I would like to have my two parts inside a combo menu just above the play button, is that possible? If not, I'll have to try a mode to combine the two movies. Thank you!

You can sorta cheat multi-version feature, name part 1 as <moviefoldername> - 1st part.ext and part 2 as <moviefoldername> - 2nd part.ext, rescan.

I tried that but I cannot obtain a multiple choice in a combo menu, if I write movienameA and movienameB than I got what I want, but it is not the proper way in my opinion.

If you named them exactly as stipulated in KB article - you should have. Approximately won't do, they need to be named exactly as movie folder name followed by space-dash-space followed by arbitrary text.

Unfortunately I obtain this result using this naming scheme

Because you're using terminology for stacked files (part1, part2), gave you one suggestion how to name them files:

name part 1 as <moviefoldername> - 1st part.ext and part 2 as <moviefoldername> - 2nd part.ext

Or adapt to your liking but do not use file-stacking terms:

Quote
  • part#
  • cd#
  • dvd#
  • pt#
  • disk#
  • disc#

As per your screenshot, you've named your files:

TLOTR - TFotR (2021) - part1.mkv

and

TLOTR - TFotR (2021) - part2.mkv

part# is one of the naming conventions used for split video files naming (file stacking), when one wants to have parts shown as you are seeing them now:

Quote

Split video files (file stacking)

The following are default stacking extensions that can be added to file names. # can be 1 through 9 or A through D. Stacking is supported for video files (but only when each video is in its own folder as in the example below) as well as dvd and blu-ray folder structures. Split videos require all parts be in the same movie folder with no other videos present in that folder.

  • part#
  • cd#
  • dvd#
  • pt#
  • disk#
  • disc#

You can also use:

  • moviename#.ext

Where # can be A through D.

Examples:

\Movies\Avatar (2009)\Avatar (2009)-cd1.mkv
\Movies\Avatar (2009)\Avatar (2009)-cd2.mkv

To avoid that, you need to change text after " - " (space-dash-space) in filename, otherwise you're explicitly telling Emby you DO want them presented as they currently are.

so if I want a combo menu I shall use "moviename - blabla1" and "moviename - blabla2"

please make me an example, a real example of what you mean.

Exactly.

For the third time:

1 hour ago, GrimReaper said:

name part 1 as <moviefoldername> - 1st part.ext and part 2 as <moviefoldername> - 2nd part.ext

i.e.

TLOTR - TFotR (2021) - 1st part.mkv

TLOTR - TFotR (2021) - 2nd part.mkv

Or anything else that doesn't use file stacking terms.

I wrote as you said for the fourth time: it does not work, it shows me two choices inside the film folder: e.g. :

🤦‍♂️ TLOTR - TFotR (2021) was just shortened version of your movie naming as there was no way I was gonna type all that out of your screenshot - leave that as it was (which needs to be same as folder name movie is in), you need to change only text after space-dash-space.

Edit: Yeah, I did type it after all:

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2021) - 1st part.mkv

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2021) - 2nd part.mkv

yes I know I just copied and pasted, that is not THE PROBLEM, what I need to know if the thing shown in the screenshot is correct, i.e. there is not a different way to show two parts of a film; for what it concerns me I can rename the film parts HomerJSimpsons, please stay focused on the screenshot.

The problem is that if your movies are not named same as folder they're in, no multi-versioning (i.e. no dropdown menu) will occur.

Quote

Multi-version movies

Multiple versions of the same content can be stored in a single movie folder.

/Movies
  /300 (2006)
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 1080p.mkv
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 1080p-trailer.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 4K.mkv
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 720p.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - extended edition.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - directors cut.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 3D.hsbs.mp4

Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ".

If using the dash method anything following the dash will be what you see in the Emby client app.
