We've had "4.9, the beta releases", so next up is "4.9, the maintenance releases".

The next real beta won't start until the new stable release is actually stable - this is, understandably, the usual pattern.

Wait so now official releases aren’t deemed stable?  Wtf

If your logic were true, I'd expect to only see bugs and fixes completed under this maintenance cycle release. I'd bet money that will not be the case here. SMH....☹️

Same here! My husband paid for lifetime sub back in the day, specifically for Live TV for me...to coax me off our cable TV subscription. It took me several years, but I finally "cut the cord". It was good for years with the AndroidTV app on Shield Pro. Now that the TV app is apparently going away, I rarely use Emby for Live TV anymore. I've tried the Universal app, but side-loading apps on several TVs is exhausting...not to mention, IMO, it's just a mobile app that doesn't work well on big screen TVs.

Honestly, invest in TiviMate for live TV.  They have a free version to try.

How well does the epg work?  Meaning my IPTV provider provides a url for the EPG, but how easy is it to make sure channels match, etc.

It handles it really good, but tivimate is not intended to do work of an iptveditor, it can do alot of stuff, groups, bunch of other things, but check out iptv editor, great web application

that will do everything you need really simple and has alot of features.

Like @kikinjosaid, it works great with EPG data, but it does not provide EPG data itself.
If your provider has EPG and M3U files TiviMate should work with them straight away. The free version will let you see that.

For more control, and FASTASTIC EPG data , have a look IPTVBoss.  I use this in conjunction with TiviMate and I have it create files for my Emby server as well for my remote kids to use. Two things it (IPTVBoss) does also for Emby specifically is

  • Allows me to remove all the streams I don't want and bring the count down to what Emby can handle.
  • It has an option that gets around what some (me included) think is a design flaw in Emby in that Emby will ignore a stream thinking it is a duplicate if it has a TVG_ID (guide data identifier) that is already used by another stream.  So if you have two sources for ESPN and they share the same guide data (and why not, both streams have the same shows) Emby will ignore what it thinks is a duplicate.  IPTVBoss can optionally create unique TVG_IDs for each stream containing the same data, thus allowing Emby to accept both streams.

My iptv service lets me select which channels I want already so my m3u only contains the channels I want

Thanks.  My provider does provide an epg url.  I’ve tried iptvboss and to be honest it’s a lot more work than I’d like to spend.

I don’t see the ability to add epg unless I upgrade.  I’d love to be able to see if the epg data matches up smoothly before paying.

Ahh, I didn't realize that's how they did it.  I knew they disabled advanced things like PiP and multiview, and maybe limited you to 1 source. But the EPG working is a big selling point. But if the EPG file from your provider is valid and the tvgid's match the m3u, it will work.

Not to jinx it but live tv has been working pretty well since I installed 4.9.1.80 and haven’t installed beta updates.

We need to separate homerun / m3u streams, big big difference in stability and management. Thats the main problem and 500 more in m3u part....

I'm using Dispatcharr together with Emby and it's pretty good right now. But I sure would like to have everything within emby.

I actually found dispatcharr to be worse than just having it directly in emby which is what I’m doing.

Are you using its most useful feature - automatic failover stream switching?

So I took the plunge.  Epg matched up for some but not all.  Is there any way to manually match in tivimate?   It works flawlessly.  No buffering. No freezing. Channels start almost instantly. So nice.  Just need epg to completely work.  Any help appreciated.

No.  But you can bite the one time bullet in Boss and manually match them up there.

So we're now at beta version 4.9.2.6 and still no TVNext feature addition! Come on @Lukeand @ebr!

I think what happened is that 4.9 beta was running so long that Luke drew a line and made a release where it stood, that is 4.9.1

4.9.2 will contain the remaining festures originally promised for 4.9, that should be a short beta of 6 months or so

4.10 will then finally contain TVNext

Short Beta 🤣🤣🤣 last one was supposed to be short and it took nearly 2 years. This stringing along is very poor form on devs they said after 4.9 and 4.9 has been released and we are still waiting.

We also said, multiple times, that may not mean immediately after.  After any major release there is quite a bit of time just tying up things that were not discovered during beta.  Then, there is also some accuracy to this:

In fact, one of the major features designated to 4.9 is not  yet ready so that is still taking priority.

Hopefully, those are SmartViews.
