Do you run your clients with or without a VPN & if yes what VPN? I use Emby live TV on a VPS with extreme fast upload speeds and share my experience with 7 people with live tv only no library movie or series just live tv. Works really well no people crying no one screaming no upset people just a smooth experience for all of us. I run live tv from a friend using SlingTV for his source with a very fast upload speed and I have no issues unlike yourself Arrbee99. Reading this thread made me sign up even though on another email I do pay each month for my/ our use of this great software that only others can dream of having.

I have few users, just family, mostly in the same household, bit of dvb-s and iptv, gigabit ethernet, no vpn. My experience using live tv on Emby (via NextPVR) isn't bad as such, I just know it could be much better from the most basic setting up of tuners to sorting out channels to actual tuning speed. If you head over to page 1 of this thread and click on the link on post #7 (as you may have seen already) you'll see there are one or two extras on the new version. And, as you may have seen mentioned, half a decade later and counting.
pdclark 10 Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 (edited) Dispatcharr loads any stream from any provider in milliseconds. Emby takes several. There is undeniably a problem with Emby LiveTV. Edited August 30, 2025 by pdclark
arrbee99 1815 Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 How true. Using NextPVR only and dvb-s the tuning is significantly quicker than Emby. True for Emby I'm doing NextPVR feeding Emby, but with TVnext I wouldn't need NextPVR anyway. I presume satellite is never in the millisecond range. 1

And since we’ve got (at least, that have been publicly announced) 2 major items still being worked on for 4.9, it seems pretty certain that there’ll be another 3 months beta at least. My overall conclusion, if I put Luke’s original statement together with today’s reality, is that it doesn’t point to a well controlled development and release process. And one consequence is, poor expectation management and disappointment for the user base. 3 3

You consider that to be an 'update', whereas everyone else thinks that's a cop out bc when 4.9 will be released is an unknown (its been years sinced you guys originally said it would be an official release and its still beta), and thus your answer is an unknown. 1

Sounds like you have a simple setup, but as you can tell, most people don't have your experience. In my case I have FIOS 1 gb up and down. I have libraries as well as Live TV. Clients don't run VPNs. On my Roku's and Apple TVs, loading the Live TV guide is painfully slow for me, and worse for my remote users/friends. Buffering is a regular occurrence.

Erik, a lot of people across the forum have either stopped using Live TV or found alternatives or are looking for them. Personally, I only use it with Pünktchen's plugin, because switching channels in any other setup is just too frustrating. None of my users want it, and some have even gone as far as taking out separate LiveTV subscriptions that add up to hundreds of euros and not all of them legal. I understand that most of the Emby userbase either don’t use Live TV or wouldn’t consider it a priority. But the most vocal people in this thread are also the ones I see regularly on the beta pages, helping others and contributing ideas. They are not just complaining for the sake of it; they want the best possible experience and genuinely want to see Emby succeed. That is why I have previously raised the point about radical transparency (I'm too lazy to scroll back on my phone to quote it here). Emby is a company, and any company needs a clear roadmap. Without one, things can appear slapdash, and that does not give customers confidence. A transparent roadmap would go a long way in showing that feedback is heard and progress is being made. This is exactly a cop out. Why? Because it’s a non answer. Zero information on target when 4.9 will be officially out of beta. No updates if 5.0 has even been works on. No dates. Nothing. Just “it will be done when it’s done”. If it wasn’t for the fact I’d paid money for this I’d have moved on. It’s responses like this - to actual paying customers - that support the fact that you guys don’t really care about feedback or wish to provide paying clients with real usable information. If plex has m3u support I’d use that. 1

It has to be fairly precise. I stopped using it as I don't want to run 2 servers for what Emby advertises (or used to) is part of their flagship features... Edited August 31, 2025 by Dibbes 1 1

This feature is not currently under any active development or testing. When that changes, we will let you know. We completely understand that this makes some of you very unhappy and that is unfortunate and not our goal but, instead of stringing you along, I'm giving you the real answer. We have to have our priorities elsewhere at this time. This is the last I will say on the matter until that situation changes.

arrbee99 1815 Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Such a pity we don't know what these other priorities are. Maybe its the smartlists mentioned ages ago (and nothing since). Can't have anything to look forward too to entice people, its just guess, speculate, try to read something into passing comments.
Santiag0 10 Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 My live tv I tested does not work on emby very long before it glitches out and my internet speed it fast I even tried it without a vpn with the same result, loads channels slow and glitches out after about 8 or 10 minutes. But I don't use live tv so I could care less but for the people who do well yeah they seem pissed.

But how many people would use live TV in Emby if live TV in Emby were awesome?? How many more subscriptions would you get? How much less crap would you have to deal with in the forum for the Premium feature that's not quite so premium? These are relevant questions. Personally, I have a tuner set up. My guide gets updated regularly, and you count me as a user because of that. Correct? But I don't really use it. Because it kinda sucks. I bet there are a lot like me who have it set up and are just waiting for the day that it's good. 1
arrbee99 1815 Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 I often wonder why Emby seems to be third choice for most people - there's nothing that stands out. 1
