pwhodges 2012 Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 On the main Emby download page select your platform and one of the options will be to download the beta; download, install and run. Note that once you change an installation to the beta, changing it back will break it. That said, many people find it reliable enough to run routinely - it's your choice depending on the reliability level you require. Paul Bear in mind, there is no beta currently for live tv, if that's what you are after
markyp 38 Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 (edited) it was... hence the wink! I'm already on the beta channel for the server, and I'm assuming there'll be some kind of closed-group testing of tv-next before it hits the normal beta channel? As a very frequent user of Live TV I'm keen to test the new functionality when its appropriate. Edited January 28, 2025 by markyp 1

arrbee99 1815 Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 I know. Sorry. I''ll try to be better. 2

denz 501 Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 4.9 was supposed to be a shorter beta but it has been a year now. To me that is a very long beta cycle. With TVnext there will be much more users participating in the beta cycle. Â

Ugnaughts 53 Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 after reading over most this thread. im still a little unsure what tvnext is? sounds like a proxy like xteve that creates more of a buffer on streams and maybe a way to manage streams that are open but should be closed. which keeps from going over stream limit from provider. am i correct? i use latest beta, has it been implemented yet? i found that there is an issue that started somewhere in the beta versions for playing 265 streams. i tested the portable version 4.8.10.0 and beta 4.9.0.37. the old version plays hvec stream ok. new beta wont. did fresh install new library on both. both use same plugins. so something changed that allows hvec/265 streams to play. i would switch back to the older version. although it causes issues with db. most likely db changes as they went. thats another reason i created my app that resolves some on going issues ive had. it exports favs and played status to csv file the imports( doesn't use emby api but sql cmds. ) so as long as emby doesn't change the structure/location of data in db then it should work on other versions of emby. problem is if i have to rescan all the strm files from iptv provider takes 3 days around the clock the first time and makes emby unusable during that time.Â

softworkz 5066 Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 This is an upcoming update to Emby, not something separate. I has only be developed in parallel due to its complexity. 1

The development cycle is sooo long and unpredictable. The product I work on for my employer has millions of LoC and we push out updates once a month and new versions once a year. Emby's lack of updates bewilders me. 1
